So... fixtures out this friday.

We're going to be in for another very competitive and exciting season me thinks!

Big Sam's already started remoulding West Ham
McLeish has walked away from Birmingham, who will also be playing in Europe!
McLaren has joined Forest
Cardiff, still with no manager after sacking Dave Jones
The south coast have invaded the Championship with Brighton and Southampton now joining Portsmouth in the league
Holloway is sure to bring more fireworks with his Blackpool side looking to go back up
And 16 other teams all looking to make the top 6 to be within a chance of promotion to the promised land!

Predictions - Who's going to make it this season!?

biggrin

Invasion will be short-lived, Southampton will get promoted and Portsmouth will be relegated. biggrin

It's going to be a tough year I think. A lot of good teams. Any from around 10 I think will be in with a decent shout.

Just hope Forests Fixtures with Brighton/Blackpool are on Bank holidays beer

Well as it stands Blackpool have no keepers apart from our youth keeper, although there is still a contract on the table for Gilks.

Crainey is another who is out of contract and has yet to sign a new contract we have offered him.

Vaughan has informed the club that he's not signing the contract we've offered him, so he's now available on a free.

Adam still here but for how much longer.

DJ Campbell under contract but after scoring 13 goals in the prem last year there must be somebody going to put a bid in.

For us, Kilkenny and Johnson leaving on freebies, as well as a few players being told they can leave, unless we strengthen our squad I can see mid table obscurity looming. There's even rumours of alan smith coming back which has caused great discussion amongst my fellow Leeds utd fans.

In summary Papa Smurf needs to spend some money on players, not on hotels and we could have a chance.

So Cardiff at West Ham on first day and new man Malky McKay appointed to lead the club!

Be interesting to see how he does, although personally i'd have liked Di Matteo or Hughton in the job, but the board etc have gone for Mckay so good luck to him!

With all the players that have left since the end of the season, he's got quite a rebuilding job to get on with too.

As a Watford fan, I'm off to put money on us being relegated by Christmas.

The new owner has not covered himself in glory...

As an Ipswich fan, I really can't see us doing too much. Apparently, since PJ took over, we'd have been 3rd in the league, but that was with Bullard, who was quite simply a cut above all others in that league, without him, I suspect we'll sustain mid-table mediocrity.

Tough tough league.

I'd be quite interested to hear your thoughts on McKay going to Cardiff? From the time he was Watford manager, do you think he can be successful in South Wales?

As i've said in another thread, it'll be interesting to see what Michael Chopra turns up for you. If its the fit, healthy and motivated one he could well be the difference after losing Bullard. The few times i saw him play he was fantastic and a level above the Championship.

One of the things that I didn't enjoy about our year in the Premiership was games being moved, some for TV which you can understand with the amount of money that Sky pay for the contract, and also opposition teams playing in Europe.

So I log into the Official Blackpool site just now to discover that our first 4 games (3 league and 1 Carling Cup) have been moved. Our opening day game @ Hull is now on the Friday night and live on Sky, and our Carling Cup game away at Sheffield Wednesday has been scheduled for the following Thursday and again live on Sky. With us now playing on the Thursday we have had to move our first home game (Peterborough) on the Saturday to the Sunday, and the following Tuesday night game to the Wednesday

Well, I'm really not sure what to make of it. He did an incredible job last year - no money, but on quite a few occasions the team outperformed the best of the league (didn't we QPR and Cardiff? wink)

He's obviously left because of the new owner at Watford, but at least he'll be used to the lack of cash at Cardiff.

In all honesty, he was awful last year. In years gone by he was the 1 on 1 specialist. Last year I don't think he could have beat me! But he did always turn up for the big games.

Good luck to him, but his best years are behind him and can't blame him for wanting to go home.

Eta what I was trying to say is that I wasn't bothered if he went or not. But at least it will free up the wages bill a bit.

Think Cardiff need to sign Goodwillie, a big man, a CM and a CB if they want to go up this year!

So the season kicks off this coming weekend (Friday night for my lot - Blackpool).

What's everyone's hopes for the season?

Players Out :
Charlie Adam
David Vaughan
DJ Campbell - Talking to QPR
+ waste of space players

Players In :
Barry Ferguson (Birmingham)
Kevin Phillips (Birmingham)
Paul Bignot (Newport County)
Gerardo Bruna (Liverpool youth/reserve team)
Matt Hill (Barnsley)
Angel Martinez (Spanish 2nd Division team)
Bojan Djordjic
Bob Harris (Queen of the South
Craig Sutherland

Still talking to Tom Ince (son of Paul) who is another Liverpool youth/reserve team player.

Craig Sutherland is a strange one. 22yr old Scottish striker who went to the US to study on a 4yr Soccer scholarship. Spent 2 years at a Midwestern State in Texas and then transferred to NC State. When he finished he sent out a load of DVD's to football clubs. Had a couple of pre-season games in Scotland and then we signed him. Came on as a late sub against Hibs and could have had a couple of goals and then scored in our last 2 friendlies. He's very fast, was a 100m Scottish National champion at school.

Would like to think we can finish in the play-offs, but could be hard with losing our 2 best players from last year and probably 3 when Campbell leaves.

We will probably continue to play 4-3-3 with the front 3 rotating positions on a regular bases, with the 2 full backs attacking very high up the field. Just hope that some defending work has been on the agenda for pre-season.

As mentioned above im not sure Cardiff have solved all their outstanding issues.

We do need a strong mobile center half and I still feel we are desperately short of cover and fullback. Naylor is not up to it and Matthews has gone.

I like what Malky is doing and it looks like he will be keeping the ball down and playing football. Nice mobile partnership upfront with Earnshaw and Miller with Gestarde and Mason coming through. Peter Witts should be given free reign to help them out. I think we look good for the playoffs at the moment. If he can address the issues at the back we SHOULD challenge West Ham and Ipswich for an auto.

Seagulls fan signing in.

Things looking bright, would think we are good enough for mid-table or higher if things pan out. Poyet has team playing a very good style of footy. Some good signings, only real loss is Bennett to Norwich.

Oh, we have a nice shiny new stadium too biggrinbiggrin

I shall prob be at the Brighton V Blackpool game in a few weeks!
