World Cup Quarter Final
Discussion
From the Guardian MBM:
ET 9 min: France really had their tails up at the end of the 90 minutes, but that head of steam has been lost. England are working hard to ensure they leave no gaps at the back, and have been standing firm so far. It's a subdued atmosphere, especially compared to the manic end to regulation time. "Unable to keep the ball?" asks Nick Smith. "Fading badly in the latter stages of a game? Outplayed by technically superior opposition? Dubious substitutions costing the game? Yep, the female England team are of a similar standard to the men's." It was only a matter of time, wasn't it. But let's not be too harsh: at least they haven't had a humiliating penalty meltdown yet. Plenty of time to sort that out, of course.

Do you know, i was just going to write the same. It is startling how similar they are, the run out of ideas after passing it around the back and then hoof it forwards. Such a shame.
The French team are so much more comfortable on the ball it's unreal.
Good effort so far (2 mins until penalties) but going back to this point, I think the problem here, as with the mens game is poor coaching and zero emphasis on technique/skill, from a junior level, the emphasis is on hoofing the ball around a massive field and running onto it.The French team are so much more comfortable on the ball it's unreal.

Definately. I had hoped that the womens game (i have to confess this is the most I have seen of it) would be good and skillful. And it is - just not by England.vonuber said:

Thing is, they get their lead from the mens game and the coaches probably are similar, and are coached in the same way, ie it's all about size/strength/hoofing the ball around, not about skill, guile and technical ability.Gassing Station | Football | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
