Why do these two North West teams dominate English football, when you look at domestic league championships and European titles no other English team comes near.
In a word, continuity.

Liverpool built the club around strong foundations, promoting from within so that managers and players knew the club inside out and had pride in their club. Since money has spiralled this has seen Liverpool's star wane somewhat

As for the filth, continuity in sticking with fire engine face going back to 88 when they nearly sacked him. Production of quality youngsters back in the early years of the Premier League which encouraged big names to join them, before shamelessly whoring themselves and the game out to corporate greed and ridiculous amounts of money

Others have followed and turned football into the gluttonous moral void that it has become today

Reputation of the club has helped in attracting players. So has a strong financial background and ability to buy players (I know you can argue about Man city and Chelsea, but Liverpool and Man Utd have been buying up the top players for years)

A good youth academy has helped both clubs, but not so much recently as the need for success is immediate.

Quite simply legendary managment, fergie and busby for utd and shankly and paisley for liverpool.

They also are both two club Cities which helps a great deal in my opinion, but in the main its the managment. Those four are head and sholders above the rest with maybe only Nicholson, Clough & wenger who deserve to get mentioned in the same breath.

I think that is short sighted. Agree with what you are saying but think Revie and Chapman deserve a mention

A lot may not like Revie but look at his record at Leeds! Way ahead of his time with psychology etc. as well. He was reviled and vilified for doing things which are the norm today (weakened teams for cup ties etc.)

Large cities/holes up north - check
Funny accents - check
Not really much to do - check
Play football/become pro and get out of this hole - check
Watch football as there is nothing else to do - check

My take on success of clubs up north, and fans/people.

Manager's that are very strict, have a fierce determination for success and a healthy budget from the chairman. A good youth team also helps.
