Who'd have Downing? Stoke maybe or a Fulham. We'd be lucky to get 10 million for him.

I don't ever remember a Liverpool winger going a full season with a return of 0 goals and 0 assists.

What a disaster of a purchase. How did the story go? Our 35 million pound striker needs a 20 million pound winger to cross the ball for him.

Of course the irony is that far too often when Carroll has come on as a sub its been Downing who's been taken off!
Just watched the 30 attempts that have hit the woodwork (Vid on lfc tv), Downing is making chances that others aren't finishing. He, himself has hit the post a fair few times. Not good enough but the stats are only telling half the picture.

I think he'll be around for a few seasons yet.

I reckon Liverpool will beat Chelsea in FA cup -but a Liverpool supporter friend of mine says given the choice he would take anyday Chelsea losing Champions League BUT winning FA cup instead
What say others here on strictly those 2 ? (If i was Pool fan i would want FA cup 100% reagrdless of any possible Chelsea CL victory)

Also happened...

7th April - Liverpool 1 Aston Villa 1
11th February - Man United 2 Liverpool 1
5th December - Fulham 1 Liverpool 0
22nd October - Liverpool 1 Norwich 1

When you look through, they haven't played a wonderful amount of time together really. There are a few occasions where subs have been made and they've been on the pitch together for literally just a few minutes. Seems odd when you consider that Carroll would possibly thrive on the service he's receive from an out and out winger.

Another feature of Carroll and Downing's time on the pitch together has been that Downing has often switched to play on the right, where he is much more likely to cut inside rather than cross, but there you go.

Then surely thats the fault of the managers tactics then. Carroll was a success at Newcastle (leading to Liverpool buying him) because of the service from the midfield and wingers Newcastle had.

To then try to change him for something he isn't, is asking for it not to work.

I wish we'd had a player like Llorente this season. The more I see of him, the more I like him.

Insua's had a good game too.

Martinez, Llorente and Munain are all quality players.

Would take any of them.

He set up the first 2 and scored the (winner) third.

He's top drawer and that, as you say, will cost top dollar.

I can't see any of the Europa League/Champion's League high flying players wanting to join a mid table Premier League team ahead of a front runner that is guaranteed Champions's League football next season and beyond, unless the wages are well above that offered by the teams that can offer it.

Well I unsurprisingly point my finger at the manager for that bit of brilliance regarding Downing and Carroll.

Everyone knows that I'm not a Carroll fan but it is complete and utter stupidity to buy a player based on his strengths and not play to them, even when we spend another 20 million to help him out.

Would stoke or fulham pay 10 million for a 0 goals/0 assists ? Im not sure

I think downings value is no more than 6-7 mill, being 28

The Spuds will most likely be looking for a new left winger in the summer and they do like loaning st players they can't afford

Realistically, sadly I don't think we can really compete for these sorts of players when we can't offer Champs League.
