Barca gave Messi football. I can't see him ever leaving personally.
I wonder if he will ever get bored? It sounds stupid and he loves Barca but in a couple of years he may think it's time for a new challenge, and he'll go and try and win everything going in a different country. We'd take him at St Mary's next season. He'd probably have to start on the bench, but if he did ok as a sub, he might get a start or 2.
Living in Barcelona, the man is a legend already and revered along with the all time greats. I know the league in Spain is not that competitve, but he is head and shouldewrs above the rest.

I think if Barca hit tough times they would sell him and Messi would be happy to go and help the club out financially. You know, the opposite of what Sol Campbell did to Spurs.
Wouldn't ever happen - there'd be a Socios riot, minimum.Pretty much every Spanish club has err 'interesting' finances (inc Barca & Real Madrid). Look at Valencia's debt for one and then there's the real sillyness of some of the others.
However, the TV deal is massively in favour of the big two, plus the socio-political significance of those two (and Athletic Bilbao) pretty much means that a way will always be found.
Unless Leo wants money (but he's hardly a Big Issue seller) or gets very upset/bored, it just won't happen.
yes its absurd that people wag fingers at the premier league for financial profligacy - Spanish clubs pay next to no tax, and have outrageous deals with their local governments that effectively make them taxpayer funded at their convenience. Italian clubs have taken money from the mob for years. But the Premier leagues superior marketing and fanbase makes it the end of football
Not a paper I read, but a colleague's showed me the front page of a certain red-top where Drenthe is accusing Messi of racial abuse... Allegedly he called him "negro" on numerous occasions whilst he was ar Real...
One man's word against the other, and trial by a British tabloid of ill-repute.

The football situation here in Spain is just a joke as regards funding. We all know about Real Madrid´s land sale and the Barcelona "support" from the government. I dread to think what would happen if Barça did go bust. I guess the fanbase would find a way to buy the clubhornetrider said:
Here's as good a place as any - they are laying on the celebrations a bit thick in Madrid!!
Was just about to say as much on the La Liga thread - you'd think they hadn't won a title for 44 years rather than 4 years. Blimey!Something of a surprise to see Villareal go down. I know they've been crap this year and don't have money any more but Champions League SF to Segunda in a few short years is one hell of a fall, even if they're not the first to do it.
