He’s not the player he was, but he’s still a level or ten above most players. Being in a poor Barca team isn’t helping him though.
Well apart from the fact that it isn't a poor Barca. It's not the team that Pep had, but it's still a good team.A bit odd that while Barca have catched up with Atletico, won and scored the most this calendar year and won the cup they loose 1 game and all of a sudden they are somehow poor.
Real and Atletico are loosing points as well.
And concerning the same old Ronaldo bias, it's very clear who's the better player of the two. And Ronaldo currently isn't anywhere near the level at his peak at Real while Messi is still deciding games almost every week.

So good that they’re going to finish third in a two horse race and knocked out of the CL before the 1/4 finals. No matter how good either Messi or Ronaldo is, they can’t carry a whole team at their ages. I'd love him to forget about money and join Shorpe on a free transfer with zero wages, just to see how much effect one man could have on a team.
Although not at the height of his powers, didn’t Denis Rodman join Brighton (UK) after leave the Chicago Bulls/other teams? Similar effect maybe? ChocolateFrog said:
So will next week be his last Barca game?
It's sad that Messi, and to a much lesser extent Ronaldo, will be retiring soon.
There's no one on the horizon anywhere near either of them.
We could be waiting 50-100 years for another Messi type talent to come along.
Foden...... It's sad that Messi, and to a much lesser extent Ronaldo, will be retiring soon.

fking hell. Both are absolutely no where near.
Yes Mbappe might get 500 goals in his career but he's still not even close, sorry.

Going back a few years.
Pele, Puskas, Maradona, Di Stefano,
We may not know who the Messi of the future is, but they are likely out there,
Would love to see Foden and Mbappe really push on but there is a gap to a Ronaldo/Messi
They need to be scoring 60-100 goals a season in atleast England, Spain, Italy or Germany (not France) for the next 10 years and they could atleast be mentioned in the same breath.Pele, Puskas, Maradona, Di Stefano,

Think of Ibrahimovic, great player but still miles off Messi and Ronaldo's level.

I know Messi score nearly 90 1 year but it's his 50 a year despite injuries which is incredible. Same for Ronaldo.
I don't see that player to match them yet (I thought MBappe might do it) but to me we are still searching for that talent. (I do think Messi was helped by having Xavi and Iniesta who did the ball winning and creative work)

Nope. He'll be there next year, especially if as now seems almost certain that Aguero is going there. He might have to take a pay cut though to stay though, but given not many other teams in the world will pay him whats he's been on a Barca, and especially at his age, he'll have to do that anyway, even if he leaves.

Everyone’s attention will obviously be on the Euros but would be amazing to see an alternate reality where the GOAT chose to play for Spain.
Given the attacking talent in recent years it’s amazing how much they have relied on Messi to score. Now he’s primary a playmaker and he’s still being let down.

His team are utterly useless.

So, he's officially a free agent from midnight last night, with no new contract signed...
So, any club can sign him up for free from today......(other than the small matter of his vast wage demand no doubt)
No doubt Barca will re-sign him, but they do have huge issues with money at the moment. From an article I read they had 500m in short term loans that needed to be paid back by 30th June, perhaps that has had something to do with contract talks. So, any club can sign him up for free from today......(other than the small matter of his vast wage demand no doubt)
Barca just cant afford his wages now, and he potentially is stopping them from signing 3 or 4 new players.
