I think Real are in a similar position, but did manage to get Ronaldo off the wage bill... more by luck than judgement

Perhaps Barca have calculated that losing Messi would cost more than keeping him?

That's a lot of Number 10 shirts he sells......

Mind-boggling how they've got themselves into this position, but perhaps inevitable when they are paying players so much.

Gareth Bale is another example over at Real, although they seem less royally screwed than Barca.

It's not really Messi per se that is the issue, it's all the other players they have on massive wages that don't generate any income. Although it's true that Messi wages probably inflate everyone else's.

Plus Barca like alot of the other top clubs then cant ship out players mid-contract as the wages are so high and no-one else can afford them.

I presume Barca where stretched already financially, and COVID just made things a whole lot worse.

Do we see Barcelona ever becoming a mid-table club though? That's the question!

Wow....really surprised that Grizemann is on that much.....!!

Aguero was on £250k per week at City, so I doubt he's agreed to less than that at Barca.

I saw in the BBC gossip bit the other day that City might go for Grizemann instead of Kane now as Barca might want to offload Grizemann, which I thought was odd, but now I see what he's on there, I can understand why they might want to offload him now they have Aguero... laugh
However, no way will City pay those kind of wages to him IMHO.....plus he's more Spanish than French now, having lived there since a kid, so I doubt he'd want to come to City anyway.

Problem for Barcelona is that Griezmann is under no obligation to move anywhere.

He's getting paid nearly a million euros a week, guaranteed. Much like Gareth Bale, he can just turn to the club and refuse to accept anything less than his contractual terms.

Barcelona can pay off that contract, but that will put them in a worse position than now and you're right that City sure as hell won't pay him that much......

This explains why Griezmann has been told he'll be registered and to report for pre-season hehe

Any sources for those wages? Seems mental money to be paying each week.

Other than Messi, who's details are well known as his full contact was leaked some time ago, the rest will likely not be accurate (hence 'alleged').... Griezmann is known to be on a massive contract... at least as big as the €500+ Suarez was earning.

Coutinho's seems really low, considering his transfer fee from Liverpool and what the rest of the team have been/are earning.

Marca put it at £240k a week in 2019 which sounds more likely.

€400k a week net.

He cost £120m - he's going to be on massive money.

TBF Messi's gross wage and net of tax are the same number.
