In regards to our team, who in midfield or attack would you replace if you have the option?
Song and Yaya Toure are probably the best defensive midfielders in the world. Wilshere and Arteta are up there with Xavi and Iniesta on their day in my opinion. Podolski is up there with monkey boy up the road. RVP is in a class of his own as a traditional centre forward. When Walcott is against a weak and slow left back he can be devistating. Very happy with the team. Koscielny and Gibbs are the two main question marks I have but they have looked very good in the second half of the season. I also think, in terms of future potential, OX, Ramsey and Ryo are up there with the most promising players in the league.
I will stick on my flame suit in preparation for the torrent of abuse this post will probably get from non Arsenal fans
I wouldn't go quite that far, Song is turning out to be a good defensive midfield but he's not as good as the likes of Toure etc. Arteta can't really be compared with Xavi or Iniesta, they're far better and I can't comment on Wilshere as it's been so long since I've seen him play, I just hope he gets over the injuries he's had and comes back 100%.Song and Yaya Toure are probably the best defensive midfielders in the world. I agree about RVP, there aren't many strikers in the world who I'd take over him but Walcott lets us down too often IMO, once Chamberlain gets in the team regularly I doubt we'll see him much, Podolski and Chamberlain on the wings could be good for us.
I think the main area Wenger needs to buy in this summer is defence (how many years have we been saying that for now?) If the rumours of Mertesacker wanting to go back to Germany are true and what with Squillaci and Djourou showing they just aren't good enough then we're going to need a couple of new central defender and maybe a left back as I don't care what anyone says, Santos isn't a left back
Edit: Getting my left and right muddled up, I must remember to keep L and R drawn on my hands

He's quite good! Other than Fabregas I can't think of another midfield player in the Premier League play as well as he did last season at his age.
I don't thinK Wenger is going to buy very many players.
Assuming Podolski is a done deal and we have Ryo back from Bolton and Joel Campbell gets his work permit I am not sure Wenger will buy anyone else up front. He should buy someone else experienced IMHO but I don't think he will.
Then when you look at midfield I do wonder who/if he'll buy....Wilshere will "be the new signing" plus there will be Diaby, Coquelin and Frimpong none of whom have contributed much this season....I know what people say about Diaby but Wenger clearly rates him very highly. Can't see him signing Benayoun permanently either.
Defensively we had a shocking run with injuries but I can't see him buying anyone there either unless Mertesacker leaves. Djourou has been played out of position a lot this season but was pretty much our best CB last year...personally I think he's better than a lot of people say. Kozzer has really pushed on and he and TV5 make a great pair...I don't rate Santos defensively either. He's also got Miquel who he seems to rate and I think has done well and there's also Kyle Bartley who is on loan at Rangers.
The real issue for Wenger is clearing out all the dead wood and players on loan....it's a huge list!

Vela
Squillaci
Arshavin
Mannone
Chamakh
Denilson
Lansbury (personally I'd like to see him given a shot)

RVP has been named writers player of the year. Not really news, no competition this season really.
I'll admit I got a bit carried away in that post last night comparing Arteta to Xavi. However, given £30-35 million to spend on players, Walcott would be the only midfielder I would consider replacing in that team I posted on the last page with a Hazard or Gotze. I agree with you Gun about the OX playing there next year, would not be surprised to see that at all. Thing is, Walcott has earned chops so it may be a case of him leaving the club over the summer instead of sitting on the bench. Isn't his contract due to expire in the next year?

It has been announced today that Booey has been named PFA Poster of the year, here on the Arsenal thread. Unlike the football award these initials stand for Positivism Favouring Arsenal and won the award clearly ahead of any of the pessimistic Arsenal fans that frequent these boards.
Recent posts saw him achieve this great accolade, with everyone remembering the skilfully worded "Wilshere and Arteta are up there with Xavi and Iniesta on their day".
Though it wasn't just his performance at the back end of the season that sealed the trophy - when 2-0 down at Sunderland a brilliant one-two of positivity on the thread saw this "Have you never seen Arsenal come back in a cup tie? Don't speak too soon."
Booey was unable to comment on the award as he was too busy trying to emulate the shot of RVP in his bedroom wearing an Arsenal kit.
