The point being he was actually a very good player, a succesful one and is widely regarded as an excellent pundit even by Liverpool and City fans, as many posts on this forum will testify.

Put your dummy back in.

He's got a voice to wind up even the most calm of people. I'm a Utd fan and the bloke comes across as a prick.

My first thought on Arsenal's first goal tonight was "If Arsenal get through tonight, I hope Gary Neville commentating doesn't ruin the moment for their fans!".

i think a poll should be made for worlds most annoying commentator.

gary neville vs ray wilkins.

have fun trying to decide between those two, they may have been great players but by far the worst commentators sky have ever had. i never thought id say but i would love for andy gray to come back and i even hated him at one point by being so biased to the big clubs, but at least his voice didnt make me want to smash the tv up. i put it on mute whenver gary and ray are commentating as they infuriate me to that extenet, they are so condesending, ray wilkins annoyed me by repeating every small thing that happened as if he was on the radio, and then gives his advice on what he would of done and what should happen, no suprise chelsea got rid of him.

although Clive Tyldesley is also up there with annoying commentators, "good shot by rooney, i know his hairdresses brothers uncle"

i would rather have a spanish commentators screaming "GOOOOAAAAALLLLAAZZZIIOOOO" down the tv at me, even the annoying guy from the bet365 advert i think would be better.

I'm a Liverpool fan, and nearly cancelled my Sky subscription when I heard he'd been appointed.

I have to say I've been completely won over by him. Ignoring his voice/appearance/history I think the man talks total sense, and is surprisingly objective. His analysis ranks with the best I've ever seen, but he doesn't take himself too seriously.

His joke about Luis being controlled by a kid in the stand with a playstation controller was top drawer.

Neville is probably my favourite commentator just now, I seem to agree with almost everything he says. He was bang on last night all the way through the Arsenal game.

PLEASE no more Ray Wilkins. PLEASE! NOOO!!

Its been a while since i last shouted at the telly ... but how many timeslast night did he mention Oxlade-Chamberlain(sp) and how utterly amazing he is as a player? The number of times he mentioned him when he wasn't even on the ball!!

Aside from those moments of verbal diarrhoeia he is not that bad a pundit. He can only get better, hopefully along with the monotone delivery.

He's a good pundit in the studio and I agree with everything he says but he's not a commentator as he doesn't flow. He is stuttered in his delivery.

Odd - my favourite pundit commentator is Ray Wilkins. My second favourite is probably Gary Neville.

The worst is Alan Smith......... by a ry mile.

I must say that mainly because of his public persona as a player I wasn't looking forward to him being a regular commentator, but he has surprised me. His knowledge is first class, which you would expect, but I actually like the way he puts it across as an ex player but without prejudice & not worried about upsetting anyone. Unlike Ray Wilkins. I liked him as a player, & like him as a man (steady), but in his eyes every single player is wonderful, every simple pass is "harder than it looks", & sits on the fence refusing to condemn players who do something wrong.

I must say being a armchair Liverpool fan my opinion of Gary Neville has changed(he seemed an A1 Knob when playing for Man U), now I find that he is to a large extent unbiased unless Man U are playing, which is understandable, also I get the feeling that he and Jamie Radknap do not see eye to eye, which adds a bit of an edge when both are there for Liverpool/Man U games.

I think he is doing a good job!!

He talks sense.
Once you get past the fact he used to play for United then he's not bad.

They do not, if you saw the analysis of Rio's non foul on Suarez you could see Redknapp getting pissed off.
