A lot of singling out of Chelsea on this thread. I agree, diving shouldn't be rewarded, but I think now its part and parcel of the game. EVERY team has divers in there first 11. I think its a case of what goes around comes around... Its now pretty much too big a part of the game to change imo...
See, you're the problem.

The bloody police should get involved.

There's big money bet on games and this is cheating.

Wouldn't surprise me if this was all part of a "Pakistani bowler" type betting scam !

Diving, faking injury and time wasting are the things that are starting to ruin the enjoyment of the game for me.

Citing should definitely be brought in and also events that the ref did see should also be re-viewable so that an incident the ref did see can be upgraded to a yellow/red or downgraded if needed. They should also be able to issue a card based on video evidence afterwards if something was missed. Any player caught diving or faking injury should get a game suspension. Citing would probably only work in the top leagues and major competitions where there are sufficient cameras for multiple views.

Do Sky still show the 'time ball in play' stat at the end of the game?

I think there should be an independent time keeper. There should be 20 seconds allowed for a free kick, goal kick, throw in etc to be taken. Then any time after the 20secs till the ball returns to play is added on as extra time.

Just to clarify, I'M NOT A PROFESSIONAL FOOTBALLER. To lay a worldwide problem with the game on me is pretty harsh.

I don't see what you mean. I'm only stating a fact that its part and parcel of the game. Managers and coaches do tell players to go down as well, so the blame isn't entirely the players fault. Perhaps if referees gave the odd penalty for a bad challenge when a player didn't dive or go down, then the problem wouldn't be so bad...

Have thought this for a long time....no idea why they don't but then we shouldn't be surprised by anything when FIFA/UEFA/FA are involved.

If Fifa bring in tv technology, the issue is then where does it stop? Do you have replays for fouls? goals? throw ins? penalty decisions? corners? diving?... Games could be extended by 30-40 mins...

It would be easy for them to clamp down on diving after the fact. Ban the feelers for a game on the first offence, 3 for their second, and so on. I fear the authorities like the scandal, discussion, and press, to be honest, or they would have done it years ago. They have a dubious goals panel, why not have a 'dubious falling over' panel?

Ban them for the rest of the season and include a clause in all contracts that stops all pay during the period of ban.

That should work...

Interesting how the least deserving/most cheaty team of the three English teams competing in midweek was the only one to progress. Drogba is an absolute bloody disgrace and a shocking example to young players. I wholeheartedly endorse the use of any nuclear option against him and his ilk.

Won't happen while Barcelona are the darlings of football.

They are possibly the worst team for it.....and they can't be seen to do any wrong in the eyes of UEFA, FIFA, etc.

In fact, most of Spanish football is plagued by it....at lot more that the Prem is. Try watching an 'El Classico'.......it's more synchronised diving than football at times

And it's seems to be accepted as the norm in Italy as well.

In fact, pretty much everywhere....except here in the UK.

Whilst I completely agree that it would be to the benefit of the game 'IN MY OPINION' to punish players retrospectively for diving, whilst the rest of the world deem it accetable, it's not going to happen.

Why not, if it's a world wide thing imposed by FIFA?

Obviously not all rugby matches have TMO's just the big games. I genuinly think my theory would work, we are not trying to do refs jobs for them, simply trying to remove a disgusting part of football without interrupting the flow of the game or undermining the refs.

I'm glad fans from all clubs are united on this issue smile

As someone who officiates at youth league level, I can assure you that those self-same fans who are united on this issue are the first to howl for a decision when one of their team goes down, no matter how obvious it is that they were not fouled.

The older the age group, the worse it gets.

It is embarrassing to watch as a fan.

Until the players feel a tiny bit of shame, or pinch on their wallet, or stupidity at being suspended for bringing the game into disrepute, it will continue.

I say this as a Rangers fan. We've got Lafferty for this role - who is an embarrassment with his 'simulation':

But it's not a new problem, and even the best are at it.

Remember Rivaldo? And of course presently Nani, Cristiano Ronaldo, Rooney and Drogba are infamous for the nonsense.

I'd say diving is a greater threat to the game than some of the tackles that see red cards and 3 game suspensions.

What about this then?

Its unbelievable that FIFA has let diving go on in the game for all these years!

You misunderstood my point.

Whilst I agree with you about the ways they could tackle it.....it just isn't seen as a 'problem' with the game by the rest of the world. In fact, in most other leagues it is seen as part of the game.

Whilst that attitude remains, nothing will be done to stop it.
