I've seen a number of pics of him awake and smiling etc but not heard anything about how he is mentally... Has he suffered any brain damage or anything?
I'm sure he's fine. He made the following statement to fans earlier this week:

Only just saw this after some dickwipe posted a video of it on Facebook, I didn't know what it was at first. If you come across the video over Facebook/twitter/whatever, I wouldn't recommend watching it. It's truly awful.

Thoughts go out to his family, absolutely terrible and so sad. frown

Sad to hear about the Italian player this morning.
Only had a health check a few days before.

It's shocking. There was another heart attack not so long ago, too, I heard? I wonder if the training regimen they go through these days is so tough it's stressing the body? Or is there some kind of (legal) performance substance professional players are taking that causes the heart to be strained? (Not in a "drugs are bad mmkay" way!)

It does seem to point to the game being too stressfull to players bodys surely?

More likely the high levels of training they do means underlying heart conditions are more likely to show themselves. As a cardiologist at the time of Muambas incident said things like this are almost impossible to spot in healthy people.

A joint statement from Bolton Wanderers and Barts Health NHS Trust

Fabrice Muamba has today (April 16) been discharged from hospital.

A spokesman for Barts Health NHS Trust said: "Barts Health can confirm that Fabrice Muamba has now been discharged following several weeks of treatment. All our staff wish him the very best in his ongoing recovery."

Fabrice Muamba said: "I am naturally very pleased to be discharged from hospital and would like to take this opportunity to pay tribute to every single member of staff at The London Chest Hospital who have played a part in my care.

"Their dedication, professionalism and expertise is simply amazing and I will forever be in their debt. I also wish to say thank you to all the many well-wishers who have sent thousands of messages of support.

"Now I am out of hospital, I am looking forward to continuing my recovery and spending precious time with my family."

Bolton Wanderers manager Owen Coyle said: "It is absolutely fantastic news that Fabrice has been discharged from hospital and everyone at the club is delighted.

"We would also like to add our thanks to the staff at The London Chest Hospital for their care and treatment of Fabrice, which has been outstanding.

"It is important that Fabrice and his family are now given time and space to be together, and we would ask the media to continue to respect their privacy."

Whats the score then? Football career over?

Surely he can't go back on the pitch after this.

In response to Cheib and Yazza

I believe he has had an ICD fitted and this should mean he can play again, understandably one of the harder parts now will be him be pyschologically ready to play again
