Full release:

"Fabrice Muamba remains in intensive care at The London Chest Hospital, where today he is showing small signs of improvement.

"His heart is now beating without the help of medication and he is also moving his arms and his legs.

"However, his long-term prognosis will remain unclear for some time.

"He is still critically ill and will continue to be closely monitored and treated by staff in The London Chest Hospital's intensive care unit."
My fingers are still very much crossed but that is nice to hear, any small improvements are to be welcomed

Anyone who ever says this should just be shot, plain and simple

I saw the tweets myself. He was giving it the 'Come and have a go if you think your hard enough' to people who were (rightly) giving him st.

After all the fuss, I spent a little time reflecting on Saturday afternoon's events. It occurred to me that I may have to ease up on my ridicule of one man...
Howard Webb. How can you prepare for a situation like that? The potential for an absolutely horrific outcome. A cool head required. Well done Howard.

Just to add what others have already posted really. It's always awful to see, and I hope he comes out of this with the ability to continue with his footballing profession. The way the crowd reacted was fantastic IMO, everyone in the stadium was in full support.. Made me feel very proud to be English at that moment in time.

Add to that the medical teams doing their job on the pitch and the cardiologist in the crowd who came forward.
Trying to save a life must be a tough job at the best of times, doing it with 35,000 people watching on, however much we talk about professionalism, thats some pressure.

Poor guy. Fingers crossed he will pull though. It is heart warming to see the rest of the football world unite in wishing him the best.

At least it happened in a place where he could get instant medical treatment, treatment of the highest calibre. Who knows what the outcome would have been if it had happened in his garden.

Get well soon Fabrice.

As an aside, and please don't let this degenerate into another religion thread, have you noticed how many people have come out stating they're praying for him?

Good to hear that he's now breathing on his own and moving his arms and legs. The roar when he makes a full recovery and steps bck onto the pitch (even if he's not playing) will be immense. thumbup

I do know what you mean but at the same time praying means different things to different people. I'm praying for him but not in a religious sense, more like if there is some way of our thoughts hopes or wishes helping in any way then that can only be a positive thing.

I hope I never have to witness such a traumatic scene again. The moment we all realised he was having his chest pumped will stay with me forever. He's in the best possible place and is showing positive signs.

Lets not forget though that there are many people up and down the country fighting for their lives who don't get this support and attention, maybe Fabrice's ordeal will make us all pray for them too.

IS there not a chance of brain damage at all, if his heart was stopped for that long, (although they will have been doing heart massage, etc)?

Precisely my concern earlier.

From what I can glean there was a prolonged period when blood circulation was compromised. This is definitely not good at all.

I hope he recovers.

I hope he is able to resume a reasonable life.

This is an absolute tragedy to afflict a gifted and likable man.

But the prognosis cannot be good.

Vague figures but it is suggested that starving the brain beyond 5'sh minutes will result in some form of brain injury. Fabrice was apparently without any heart response for between 7 to 10 minutes. frown

Yes... but I would say the fact he is moving is a good sign. A friend of mine went through something very similar to what Fabrice Muamba is going through...his heart was stopped for twenty mins....his wife was told whilst he was still sedated that there was a 90% chance of brain damage but he is now absolutely fine. The fact he received such quick treatment lessens the chance of brain damage massively but the fact it took so long to get his heart started again is against him.

Miracles do happen!

My heart stopped for just over 6 minutes when I was born, so have been told many times by my mum how close it was to being damaged.
