Also, I will add, we could do a lot worse than Rickie Lambert too. He too has had a phenomenal season, he's another natural goalscorer. We seem to be little light on goalscorers for the national side. Welbeck and Sturridge have pace and do get a few goals, but I don't think either have had a brilliant season. Likewise Defoe, he's not started too often for Spurs this season, also he's had numerous chances for the national team, and never really took them. Crouch, Zamora, Carroll, they've all had below par seasons too...
Defoe has scored 16 goals in 20 appearances this season. The problem is if you take a big target man like Holt, they can't stop themselves launching the ball forward at him.
16 you say? Thats a lot more than I thought but you must be including Europa league games, and how many sub appearances on top of those 20 starts? He's had a below par league campaign this season though.

Crouch, proven international goal scorer.

22 goals from 40 games i think.

I'd expect 'Andy Carroll for Euro 2012' to start to build momentum now he has 2 goals in 2 games. The fact that players like Welbeck (2 goals in last 14), Sturridge and Fraxier Camper (neither of those 2 can hold a regualr starting place for the last few months).

I hope Holt has already got a deal for a nice summer holiday, and then he's rested, fit and ready to go for next season...

Grant Holt is quality.

I am a newcastle fan and I was actually cringing every time they lobbed a ball up to him when we got mauled at Carrow Road.

He is a great striker - he scored a brilliant goal at Everton I think which was absolute class.

In my eyes he is much better than Carroll.

They should give him a go for sure.

As for Ricky Lambert - let's see how his first season in the premiership goes before we pass judgement.

Also, back to Carroll - he was a reserve player for a good few seasons before he got his break, scored a few goals in the Championship and then netted a dozen or so times for us before Liverfool wasted good money on him.

In my eyes, Carroll is as unproven as Holt.

When Norwich first signed Grant Holt lots of people said he wouldn't be good enough for League 1.
When Norwich won L1 with Holt as top scorer the same people said he wouldn't be good enough for the Championship.
When Norwich were promoted with Holt as top scorer the same people said he wouldn't be good enough for the Premier League.
Now Norwich have all but survived in the Premier League in a safe mid-table spot with Holt as top scorer and 2nd highest scoring English striker in the league those same people are saying he isn't good enough for England.

He's scored in all 4 leagues in successive seasons. International football is the only level left to move up to (I don't see Norwich qualifying for England any time soon). Give him a chance at International level and I'm pretty sure he will score goals.

Hell why not? As the chap says, nobody is expecting anything from England at the Euro championships, why not try something different?

I'm an Ipswich fan, and i've been campaigning for his inclusion in the England squad for months.

I see some real quality in him, he's strong, can finish, excellent movement in the box and most of all, a level head.

I fking hate Norwich, so gives you an idea of how i'm having to swallow my pride, but I see him as a real threat.

Sadly he'll not get a sniff, mostly because of his age I suspect. If he was 21 he'd have been a certainty.

Never mind, i'll not lose any sleep over it, as he's a scummer wink but I feel it's a shame such a threat won't be going with the squad.

Are you feeling alright?? Most Ipswich fans would campaign for him to be shot...

I've taken a fair bit of stick for it.

But i'm an honest fan, I can accept that Norwich are better than Ipswich too, much better than us last season too.

Holt is good, no two ways about it.

I'd be very surprised if Holt was included at this late stage. Shame really as he's had a good season, and players like Sturridge/Welbeck don't really deserve to go based on the last few months, though I guess they are the future.

I think Hodgeson will want to win over some of the doubters in the friendlies he has in a few weeks time, so including an unfashionable player like Holt is probably not the way to do it.

I dunno about that mate, must England fans want the team to be picked based on who's in form for their club. Crouch has had some good seasons for Liverpool and Spurs going back 4-6 years ago. He has done a reasonable job for England when called up, though he's no world beater. Zamora is a player that i've never really been a big fan of, though i'm sure many Fulham fans will tell you he done a good job for them when they reached the Europa cup final. Carroll has just had too much expectation on his shoulders and a stupid price tag and just can't handle it.

No doubt hodgson will pick Heskey, Crouch, Bent, Zamora and Rooney.

Yup, what is he? Second highest English scorer in the league after Rooney?

Absolutely no possible reason why he shouldn't be in the squad if you're picking on form.

Offers more physicality than Crouch if you wanna play the ste long ball, guaranteed to actually give a st about playing for England unlike pretty much everyone else. Looks like he can finish whenever he plays.

Will never, ever get picked and that's a travesty.

Imagine how many goals he'd have if he played for one of the top 6.

Get him on the plane.
