What's all this bks talk about us finishing second next year???
Well, City are definitely going to refresh and strengthen over the Summer. I don't think we will, as I said above.
The owners will be happy with second imho. Therefore we won't spend the funds needed to keep apace.
How many more years can the squad overachieve like this year? Especially with Ferdinand, Scholes, Giggs, Park, Evra past their prime (plus Fletch seemingly gone for good). Fingers crossed that Vida recovers.
DId a litte scout round last night on a couple of Utd forums and on one in particualr they were calls for SAF's head - said his decision making has been bad for a couple of sesons now and how he has remained loyal to this midfield for far too long. even Sir Ryan Giggs came in for a right battering with one bloke, saying he was fed up with him just claiming personal records and he should fk off over the horizon ... (has he got ANOTHER year-long contract btw?)
Quite surprised at some of the comments - Phelan isn't up to it apparently and Queiroz is very much missed ...
Not a lot of mention of City's money either, just that the team have played poorly for a lot of the season - yet are still second!

Overall this is still a very , very young United side. Aside from Giggs Scholes & Rio, the likes of Smalling, Jones, Rafa, Cleverly, Welbeck etc. are nowhere near the finished article. Jones is only just 20. They have done well this season but we have really missed Vidic at the back & we have been poor at defending set pieces.
If City win it, then so be it, they will get all excited but frankly, while they have played some good football, who cares? They are just the next club to show that in order to compete with United you have to spend ridiculous amounts of money. There is no way they would be anywhere near United if they had spent the same amount that we have on players. They've had to spend over 8 times (net) what we have in the last 5 years. Over 5 times what we have spent in the last 8 years to get near us.

With the resources they have deployed they should have been out of sight by now so its a credit to United that they are not. We will be back again challenging next year, and the year after that and again after that. Maybe City will have learned from what happened at Chavski, maybe they won't. We will see. Its unrealistic to expect they won't win some stuff, but it will be many, many years before they get anywhere near SAF's haul.
And besides, Platini is going to screw them over in a big way I think with FFP - they are the complete antithesis of what he wants to see. They will try & get around it with the dodgy Etihad sponsorship but he will just change the rules to fix that. His pride is at stake on that one, he won't back down. Also anyone who thinks the problems they have with Tevez & Balotelli etc are somehow all miraculously resolved is delusional. One (or maybe both) of them will cause Mancini a headache again at some point in the future. If indeed Mancini stays that long.
We've had 5 x 5 goal winning margins this season I think. We just need to repeat that exercise twice more (preferably 6 a piece!) and hope that City struggle against Newcastle. If not then so be it - but they will not get an easy ride from here-on, they will not have things all their own way and we will beat them again. Mancester United has not won its last trophy, not by a long shot.

Yes City have spent many more times what you have but it takes time for a team to gel and club standard/expectation/legacy to be set.
So next season could equally see them pull away from the rest of the league in a big way.
The return on investment from City's previous spending may not yet have fully crystalised.

Look at those transfer league spending tables, look at what the Chavs have spent and look at where they are.
City's squad is also pretty one dimensional in my view. When they are all there its very strong; but when they lost a couple of key players mid season they were all over the shop. They are going to lose the Africans to the ACN again next Jan because its being played again in 2013.
Paris SG are the fly in the ointment for FFP.
The big question is will Platini be prepared to do anything about behaviour that no directly affects Paris' biggest club?
With all the will in the world, I doubt anything can be done about the Etihad deals...I'm struggling to think how that can be stopped?

On another note, how do we all feel the possibility of this Asian stock float could change things?
My fear is that huge debt payments will be replaced by huge dividends.
We've paid nearly 500 million in payments whilst only spending 120 or something million on players in the same timeframe.
Anyone got a crystal ball?

If they can keep their players happy and keep a level of consistency then they'll be a force to be reckoned with no doubt. Be interesting to see FFP when it comes in, how City will manage as they simply do not have the same level of income as United. Wonder how the City fans will react when their ticket prices double? So next season could equally see them pull away from the rest of the league in a big way.

This is quite funny.
