Midfielder?
Don't expect him to understand it all im, he probably thought Tony Adams was cultured.

Paul Scholes is the best English player of the past 50 years, since Bobby Charlton himself.

There's some great names being banded about here of that there's no doubt...Waddle, Gascoigne, Robson, Beckham, Beardsley, Lineker, Shearer, G. Neville (ahem)....but none of these are as good as Scholesy. They're just not...

He turned his back on England though.

Le Tissier? Beardsley? Vs. Scholes?

Gerrard grabbing games by scruff of neck? Really??

Back from a football thread ban, but I may impose a self ban myself if this is the standard of posting.

On Hoddle...

"In October 1983, he dazzled the White Hart Lane crowd with a phenomenal second-round display as Spurs won 6–2 on aggregate against a Feyenoord Rotterdam side containing the legendary Johan Cruyff. Such was the quality of his performance in both matches, the Dutch legend entered the Tottenham dressing room and offered Hoddle his shirt as a sign of respect."

Michel Platini famously attacked the English for neglecting creativity; had Hoddle been born French, he said, "he would have won 150 caps".

And i've not even brought Mickey Hazard or Graham Roberts into the equation yet...hehe

If you have never seen Gerrard grabbing a game by the scruff of its neck you can't have seen nuch football in the last 10 years.

He is one of my favorite Premier League players, utterly unstoppable at times.

I could probably count them on my hand. He goes missing way too much in games.

Neither Gerrard nor Lampard are vastly inferior to Scholes....they're not as good, but not vastly inferior and of course Gerrard has influenced games in the past, he doesn't do it now but he has done in the past.

Jimmy Lad even Hoddle himself thinks Scholes was the best:-

There isn’t a player of his mould anywhere in the world.
Glen Hoddle

In the last 15 to 20 years the best central midfielder that I have seen — the most complete — is Scholes. I have spoken with Xabi Alonso about this many times. Scholes is a spectacular player who has everything. He can play the final pass, he can score, he is strong, he never gets knocked off the ball and he doesn’t give possession away. If he had been Spanish then maybe he would have been valued more.
Xavi

My toughest opponent? Scholes of Manchester. He is the complete midfielder.
Zinedine Zidane

Out of everyone at Manchester United, I would pick out Scholes – he is the best midfielder of his generation. I would have loved to have played alongside him.
Pep Guardiola

I tell anyone who asks me – Scholes is the best English player.
Laurent Blanc

He is the one whose level I aspire to. He is the best player in the Premier League.
Cesc Fabregas

Why isn’t he playing for England? It is crazy. Only in England. Scholes is a great, great player. So experienced and still, for me, one of the best in the world in midfield. Manchester United are lucky to have him.
Jose Mourinho

Paul Scholes would have been one of my first choices for putting together a great team – that goes to show how highly I have always rated him. He would have been one of the first players I’d have bought, given the chance.
Marcello Lippi

He could play a bit...then this...

"You and I have been physically given two hands and two legs and half-decent brains,"

"Some people have not been born like that for a reason. The karma is working from another lifetime.

"I have nothing to hide about that. It is not only people with disabilities. What you sow, you have to reap."
