I'd cut his wages by half then cut them by a further 20% every time he gets sent off and I would like the Premier League to force a cap on his wage if he were to get transferred. Pigs and flying..... Perhaps just ban him from Prem and Championship, make him play in league 1 for my team, we would pay him about a grand a week. Happy Days silly

On his day he's not the worst midefielder there is in the Prem - saw a game he played (can't remember who for, might have been Newcastle) v Wolves game where he got kicked all round the ground by the Wolves players and got no protection from the ref and didn't lose his head.
I was at that game and he was getting a bit of a battering, yet somehow managed to restrain himself.

Being a Newcastle fan I used to rate him as a player. His free kicks are fantastic and he does have a dominant personality, which gives him great command over the midfield.

His temper is a massive issue though. He can be a real liability at times and caused all sorts of problems in the changing room the season we went down. Newcastle fans loved him though, as he was rough as fk and played out the Geordie hardman image to a tee.

His worst little rage for me was when he punched Perdersen in the stomach during the Blackburn game. He proved to everyone then that he wouldn't change his ways.

Could of been a great player, but he is too much of a loose cannon. God knows how QPR cope with him and Derry in the team.

It really should be treated as 3 separate red cards, so 4 matches for the first, 5 for the second a 6 for the third which would be awesome.

If that's true you'd think his England career would have been longer than 12 minutes.

Note "could of (have)" different from "has". Don't let his undoubted tttishness cloud judgment of his undoubted talent (and vice versa).

His attitude let him down, not his ability. Had he kept his head down and concentrated on his football, he could have been very good. As it is, he can't help but lash out and this has hindered his career i.e. Man City.

Don't think he could have been a great player at all. He's just a journeyman, a one paced plodder. If it hadn't been for him being a grade a knacker he wouldn't even appear on the radar.

I'd happily have him at West Ham to link up with Nolan again, I think he's a great player.

Unbelievable!! Great player??? Great???

Just out of interest, if Joey Barton is a great player, what terms would you use to describe Gerrard, Lampard, Viera, Essien, Keane, Brian Robson, etc etc. And a million other combative mildfielders who make Barton look like the mediocre plodder he is.

fk only knows what words you have for Maradonna, Pele, Beckenbaur, Van Basten and dozens of other truely great players.

Joey Barton...great. I don't know what mindbending drugs you're on, but chuck some my way.

Slate him all you want, Barton in form is still potential england-material - his antics aside.
More than what you can say about 95% of midfielders plying their trade in the premier league.
He is a grade A censored but there is a very good fotballer in there.

Clearly not the anxiety inducing ones you are on.

Very good. Still waiting for an answer to my question. If you descibe Barton as "a great player", please tell me what words you would use to descibe Messi?

Im a Newcastle fan and he was massive in the 2010/2011 season for us.
Im not gonna bother getting into rhetorics of what constitutes a "great fotballer", but it is a fact that he would have made the england team if it werent for the fact that he was - well - Joey Barton. Even Pardew said as much.

Compared to Messi every fotballer is ste, but as far as english midfielders go - Barton have been very good. Maybe not great, but good. There is a reason clubs throw 50-80 grand packages his way, and it isnt due to his lovely personality.
