Life as a Luton fan is never, ever dull-I’ve been going since the early 90’s (my Dad got me my first season ticket aged six; talk about child abuse...) and I can’t remember a season where we didn’t have something to play for by February-usually battling to stay up!

Kevin Nolan’s, the club’s and your fans’ sportsmanship that day is remembered pretty favourably around these parts-think I speak for a lot of Hatters when I say we were all disappointed to see NC lose their league status. It’s a grand old club, with a good fan base, great history and cracking little stadium (a great away day/night out, too!); just proves nobody is immune from a fall from grace.

What do current non-league fans make of Salford’s rapid ascension through the pyramid? I’ve followed the documentary on Sky (which of course will be slightly biased but it’s good viewing)-shame a similar one wasn’t made about AFC Wimbledon. If I had to pick a team to lose to in the playoffs it would have been them (and er, we did, after not really turning up); the only club all proper fans can be universal in their hatred for is MK Dons.

Redditch United fan here. We had some excellent games and attendances (500+) for our games early on in the season but for now it’s more likely a battle to survive.

The trouble with Salford is they have a very limited fan base, even if they built a massive stadium not many would go. I know a few season ticket holders and they only go for something to do, they’re local and like watching football, never go to away games. It’s not sustainable on gate receipts so when the billionaire owner gets tired of it they’ll be back down to none league.

I think that will be the same for a lot of clubs, Moley.

My club (Yeovil), the new-ish owner has said the only way we can survive is to sell the land the stadium is built on and that the only people he can do that to is the local council. They've voted to accept the deal but the Supporters Trust has temporarily put a stop to proceedings by invoking an ACV ( Asset of Community Value) which apparently will put a brake on the deal and give the Trust six months to put an offer in.

Not sure what to make of everything right now but since the ACV was invoked 2-3 weeks ago, the owner has brought in a high earner in Reuben Reid, 2 or 3 other players & this has led to speculation that the deal with the council wasn't as desperate as the owner made & he just wants THAT deal as it will line his pockets better than others might.

At least things have improved off the pitch although with an NL suspension looming, it might all be pointless.

Jim Gannon sacked from Stockport. Not sure why but it was a bit of a shock to me.

Yes, surprising, something going on behind the scenes, seeing some of the comments on Twitter it looks like he’s a ‘my way or the highway’ kind of guy so must have pissed the owner off.

I watched their last game in the cup against Notts, I thought they’d win, they have a few good players.

It's an infamous day in County history, Jim Gannon is just shy of 1000 games as player and manager for us, everything good that has happened in the last 30 years has involved him, every full season he's had as manager the league position has been higher than the season before.
He's been sacked twice before, once by administrators, once by the clueless muppets who took the club out of the league and then into the Conference North, Jim came back and re-built, won the North and then made us a top conference side, there's the odd exception (most of them very odd), but there won't be a more united support in the land behind a manager, I don't think the new owner has a clue just what he's done there, probably a good job for him that the game tomorrow is behind closed doors.
Still stunned 24 hours later.

Any idea why he was sacked? I tried to look through some of the supporter group pages but everybody is just bickering. A bunch of fans saying something about the new owner turning County into a new City. What does that even mean?

I thought he did very well against West Ham the other day and did the club proud.

Don't drop in on this thread very often but things like this don't really surprise me any more. I don't know the full story behind the sacking and why, but as more and more 'non-football people' get involved with our clubs this is what happens. Gutted for the County fans who have stuck with them through thick and thin and this type of thing happens. Usually it's the fans who call for the manager to go but in this case it sounds like the fans are happy with him and it's an owner's ego issue.

Jim has a history of falling out with people, he's very particular in how he wants things doing (he's bordering on obsessive about his team not committing fouls and sets great stall on finishing top of fair play leagues), it's one of the reasons he's not lasted long managing anywhere other than County.
The vast majority of the players he's fallen out with have been either no good and have done nothing afterwards in the game, or talented but lazy under-achievers, in contrast he has a great record of developing young players, the side he won the League 2 play offs with in 2008 had something like an average age of 21 and 4 18 year olds in it.
He's someone who'll take a team and steadily improve it year after year, what's happened at County in the last year is that we've been taken over by someone with lost of cash who wants massive, instant results, Conference to Championship in 7 years. We've gone from a part-time side built by Jim to full time, swanky new training ground, flash team bus, and new players from higher leagues who may not have been chosen by the manager, but by a new director of football as part of a structure which seems inflated for a conference club (what the DoF does all day is a mystery).
There's been very public disagreements between the manager and some of the new players whose egos seem out of line with their achievements in the game, it wouldn't be much of a surprise if there's been trouble with others of the new members of staff brought in in the last year either.
Jim wants to do things his way, it's proven to work, as stated above everything good in the last 30 years at the club has involved him, the vast majority of fans want him left alone to do his thing, he's embedded in the local community, the new owner has done plenty right so far, but even if we go on to achieve his ambitions he'll never shake the last few days off in the eyes of many fans. I'll not trust or respect him again.

I think Stockport's very latest history is along the lines of Salford, Wrexham, and from a years ago, MK Dons.

Very wealthy owners, success now, or else.

The BBC and football luvvies seem to fawn over Salford with their celebrity/rich owners B.S..
I remember when we (Notts) lost there in the FA Cup, they were so happy.

Wrexham are a "proper" club (I hate that expression too, but it works) with a great history and large potential fanbase. I will be watching their fortunes under their Hollywood owners very closely.

I have been to MKD several times to watch Notts. Great facilities and from the ones I encountered, decent fans.
The ground is a bit devoid of atmosphere and is made up of a large percentage of free tickets and kids (nothing wrong there) waving foam hands. I was told by some of their adult fans that they watch MKD because they can't afford to go and watch the big London clubs.

Our dear neighbours Mansfield have a very wealthy owner who has for the last few years, provided a very good player budget for L2 apparently. They seemed to have turned the corner under Cloughie.

I still love my football even the National League. The majority of fans (I won't give the knuckle draggers any publicity on here) are very good towards away fans providing you show some respect. No fear of going into a nearby pub for beers and food.

Notts have (we think) fairly wealthy owners from Denmark. They haven't made any stupid promises for the club or splashed cash they don't have, it's more of a steady ship with sustainable progress - hopefully.
Neil Ardley certainly divides opinion. Undoubtedly a top bloke, some think too nice, too cautious, some think a steady pair of hands. Time will tell.

I'll edit my 'everything good in the last 30 years at County has involved Jim Gannon' comment

In the last 50 years County have finished in the top 10 of their division 15 times, he's been involved each time.

As a Notts fan living in Manchester I got a fair amount of stick when we lost to Salford but we seem to have lost before the match kicked off!

I’m pleased with our new owners, following that last chump, and I hope they stick with us.

I’m not entirely convinced with Ardley as our current league position isn’t good enough but I don’t think the answer is to get rid of him. I was listening to one of Magpie Circle podcasts with the Exeter manager, he was on about teams get the best results when the manager is given time and money, that’s what Ardley is getting at the moment. I think he’s got the benefit of not having fans in the ground at the moment as he’d get some stick following some of the recent losses!

Hi Rammy

I listen to Magpie Circle podcast every now and then too.

If Notts don't go up this season, if it completes, I would probably prefer a new manager, but no idea who.

Some fans have mentioned Graham Alexander, but he has been pretty good at some clubs but not so at others.
Changing managers really is a card game.

Thank fk I won't have to watch the likes of Wealdstone and King's Lynn next season.

Hard lines Torquay, great game.

Congratulations. That game looks like it had more drama than the entirety of the Euros so far. Jeff Stelling will be delirious!

Yes, well done! The final, once again, was played between the 2nd and 3rd teams.

Another season for us in bloody league! I think it will be tougher for us next year with current teams.

Hoping my home town team Wrexham, manage to get promoted next season. Still no manager named and only half a squad. They also have a preseason tour of Philadelphia coming up. Hopefully they will name a manager this week.

I remember Wrexham being one of our main rivals when we were battling to get promoted from the Conference. Can’t quite believe they’re still in the same position nearly ten years later!

As a Redditch United fan I can only dream of two Hollywood actors appearing in the town. Closest we got was Rik Mayalls Kevin Turvey impression - still superb however….

What is the feeling in Wrexham as to what their plans are?
