Debating which game to see at the moment. Erring toward the quarter final between group A winners and Group B runner ups at the millennium stadium.

Because all 3 of them have a realistic chance of winning a proper tournament, so they wouldn't waste their time with this drivel.

I think olympic football is a nonsense, mens and womens. No one cares. I had no idea who the reigning olympic champions were until it was mentioned on tv the other day. Yet I can name all the world cup winners back to 1930.

I couldn't care less if it's won by Gt Britain or not. I won't be watching it. Complete waste of time.

I bought a load of football tickets based on days i could get off work, ended up with Team GBs opening and final group games and the bronze medal match so i am quite pleased. I'll give you a wave if I see a camera.

Qualifying info is here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Football_at_the_2012_... there were effectively six qualification groups but based on the Olympic rules of having only a certain number of over 25 year old players available, many of the U21/U23 championships were the qualification rounds, which Spain won and Italy or Germany failed to qualify .... but you knew all that right? wink Smaller countries in Oceania etc had their own Olympic specific tournaments.

So you know Spain are the winners of the last 2 proper tournaments. Do you know who the last 2 Olympic champs are, without looking it up on the internet. Apparently, Argentina won in 2008. I say apparently as I have no recolection of it, and only heard it on telly the other day. I ain't got the foggiest clue who won in in 2004, or 2000, or any other year. I don't want to know anyway, it's meaningless nonsense.

If Spain want to give a run out to a few borderline youngsters and a few over the hill has beens who haven't made the Euros, then good for them. I just don't care. And I bet the Spanish fans don't care either.

Apparently Beckham and Giggs are keen to play in Team GB. fk me, it's Soccer Aid all over again. I wonder if the blokes from JLS are free.

Serously, it's a bad joke. If England, Scotland, Ireland or Wales had any chance of winning a proper tournament, or had won one in living memory, no one would give a rats behind about Olympic football. The fact that some people are getting genuinely excited over it shows just how far we've fallen as a serious footballing nation.

Got tickets to Mens final on 12th August. Was to be my first visit to the new Wembley but toddled up there yesterday to watch Crewe v Cheltenham - Very nice stadium with total rip-off prices (£50 to see a League 2 play-off final and £3.20 for a Coke!)

But he's going to the Euros, so playing in a proper tournament rules him out.
