No doubt PP will try ambush marketing the Olympics - didn't they do it at a big Golf tournament a few years back?

You've got to credit Paddy Power in a way, though... Imagine having the guts to pay Bendtner on the off-chance he might score.
I`ve heard it said Carltons pants are sponsored by someone, one day we might find out who it is.

Did I hear this right, that the racist chanting of the Italian chap (sorry don't follow footy closely) resulted in a £20K fine?

If so it makes the above look even sillier.

UEFA doesn't give two sts about racism.

UEFA gives lots of st about brands pulling out of sponsoring future tournaments because of ambush marketing.

Until McDonalds or Coke or Heineken threaten to pull out because of racism UEFA won't take it seriously.

An £80k fine is ludicrous; the Samoan rugby player Alesana Tuilagi was fined £5k for showing a branded mouthguard at the rugby World Cup in 2011 and at the time I thought that was a bit harsh!

I have no problem with fining people according to their means, otherwise where is the deterrent value?
Still feel that Paddy Power should have been punished too. As it is, it's like punishing Adam for biting the apple and leaving the serpent smirking in its tree.

Yet the Russians got fined only €20k more for their fans kicking the st out of stewards, throwing fireworks on the field and showing illicit banners inciting hatrid.

The problem I have isn't with the punishment itself, but with the complete disparity shown by UEFA in their punishments, how can he get a €100k fine, yet Russian FA still get a €120k fine. Bearing in mind the Russian FA get a reported €13.3 million for their finishing position and participation.

I suppose the view they take is that the Federations are not directly responsible for the actions of their fans, whereas Bendtner most certainly is directly responsible for his choice of underwear.

I didnt even see any sponsorship on them until I saw a photograph of it, it wasnt on screen more for than 1 second.

As for the fine & ban, its very ott. Croatia's fine for racist chanting from their fans is less £££.
