OK so we know there is no Becks.

But according to the Beeb, there's no Scots or NornIron either.

No Craig Gordon or, say, Kenny Miller as tokens?

I guess by applying the same rule to all (merit only) Pearce has been true to his stated philosophy about picking a squad to win a medal.

Is it about the best team, or PC quotas? I'd rather the best team was entered, rather than token players to appease those who think talent comes second to your home FA.

Team announced.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/mobile/olympics/18675...

Squad: J Allen (Swansea), C Bellamy (Liverpool), R Bertrand (Chelsea), J Butland (Birmingham), S Caulker (Tottenham), T Cleverley (Manchester United), J Cork (Southampton), C Dawson (West Brom), R Giggs (Manchester United), A Ramsey (Arsenal), M Richards (Manchester City), D Rose (Tottenham), S Sinclair (Swansea), M Sordell (Bolton), J Steele (Middlesbrough), D Sturridge (Chelsea), N Taylor (Swansea), J Tomkins (West Ham)

A few names in there I'm unfamiliar with. Would like to see Ramsay and Joe Allen in the middle though.

Well the IFA and SFA are both very opposed to a Team GB side and the possibility of it undermining the independence of the NI and Jockanese full national sides.

So... I'm going to go with the theory that Pearce didn't want to upset the IFA and SFA so didn't pick any players from those associations.

Nothing to do with the bleak future of the NI and Scottish national sides, oh no! There are loads of players good enough, honest! Pearce was just being kind by not picking any.

It's team GB.

Scotland, for now (& still will be after 2014, IMO...), is part of GB and hence, Scots should not only cheer on the team, but not second guess the management's selection processes.

The bare and simple fact is that no Scottish players are good enough to make the squad and that's fair enough.

Plus, no other Olympic sport would be under pressure to put a random NI/Scot on the team if they aren't good enough in the first place in some weird nationalistic version of affirmative action.

Signed, a Scot.

Except if it undermines the independence of Scottish Football - which is something that various FIFA oficials would be more than happy to see.

The FA should know better too as they would also lose any influence on the IFAB as FIFA would take the opportunity to abolish the IFAB as well.

Bit this is contrary to everything I have seen on the issue. What evidence have to read that makes you think it is a danger to the Scottish FA?

Because Sepp Blatter and FIFA are a bunch of corrupt, lying bds. I wouldn't trust them if they said a football is a sphere. Some countries don't like separate English, Wales, Scotland and Northern Teams/leagues and they certainly don't like our influence on IFAB.

The same goes for Lord Coe, BOA and the politicians involved - they don't give a damn about the interests of home nation football, all they care about is the Olympics.

None of their promises are worth the paper they're written on.

That is why the UK hasn't fielded an olympic football team in decades and the SFA, FAW and IFA have opposed the latest incarnation since day 1.

Sir Chris Hoy and Bradley Wiggins - fine, come on Team GB. But football? Team GB can fk off.

umm.

The political / voting influence of the "home nations" teams is vastly, vastly out of proportion with their influence on the world game at national or club level.

Blatter is a total **nt but he's absolutely right to look at the representation of the Scottish FA and IFA. I would point the finger at those on the SFA / IFA gravy trains rather than FIFA.

So garath Bale is injured and can't play for Team GB, but can play for Spurs in a friendly.

Who can blame him? He's made the right choice in my view.

He'd probably have ended up even more injured with Pearce being a mong.

Not really much point hoping for that, the vast majority (probably everyone actually) doesn't give a stuff.

Are you Welsh or half Welsh or not Welsh hornet? I can't really tell from your posts on football and rugby.

I was born in the Big Smoke of Welsh and Irish parentage. Moved to Dublin shortly after and then to Wales when I was four. For rugby 100% Welsh and for footy too I guess, but will follow England for the footy as well.
