Well, that 1-0 away win over the franchise has restored a bit of faith that we will actually attack teams away from home following the painful viewing last week.

Having one of our defensive midfielders suspended probably did us some favours as it meant we had no choice but to field a slightly more attacking team.

Pompey at home Tuesday and Swindon at home Saturday... two very big games going by Pompey's form.

Not a good time to be playing Pompey it seems.

I'd like to think we at least tried to get Izale McLeod from Barnet as he is smashing it for Pompey.

Very solid performance against a very good and in form Portsmouth side - how are they affording the players they have?!?!?!

I still won't believe we're capable of a playoff finish until we get through the next couple of months. But the last two games the manager seems to have nailed our best formation and rather than stealing wins, we're deservedly winning.

For some reason, Swindon cleared the midfielder we have on loan from them to play against them.

It was soon evident why. He was utter turd.

When we lost to Colchester we played with 3 defensive midfielders and only poor ColU finishing and our keeper saved us from a similar scoreline to yesterday - so I thought we'd see the end of that crap.

But no, a 4-3-2-1 formation which meant we had no one in the middle and Bostock bossed it.

The worst thing is, it was evident from the first 5 minutes change needed to happen. But still, no change in formation until we were 3-0 down and saved a penalty.

As boosting as the Dons and Pompey results were, yesterday sapped away any confidence that we might actually achieve something.

Another away win for Stevenage, that's 6 out of 8.

I've only been to 3 of those, but I still can't help but think we're in a false position.

We're playing, what appears, terribly but keep getting results and I really don't understand how.

Despite being second in the league, the football is so unenjoyable to watch.

We set up to withstand pressure for the first 45-60 minutes and only then commit to attack after that.

It seems to work wonders away, but we need to sort out the home form.

First half, I'd say we (Yeovil) had the majority of the possession and the bulk of the chances but ultimately it was one all, the only stat that really counts.

Second half, you went more direct having brought on Marcus Haber for Agyemang at half time. Was really impressed with him to be honest; direct, powerful and tricky all at once. Set up the goal for Akins and tested our keeper and defence out on a couple of other occasions.

Disappointed in Tansey; went down like a sack of spuds earning Daniel Johnson a yellow card when he barely touched him, cueing up a chorus of "Are you Suarez in disguise?" ... hehe
Sounds like a fair summing up. Haber is very hit or miss. Defenders either can't handle him in the slightest or make him anonymous. There's never a middle ground. Tansey is a great little player and I'm surprised he's gone down easy. If you'd have said Anthony Grant did it, I wouldn't have doubted it.
I was surprised the second half worked so well for us. I rate all three of Dunne, Tansey and Grant, but all 3 are primarily defensive based midfielders and when we've done that in the past it's left the lone striker completely isolated.

A little gutted I didn't go along and add to our pathetic away support (79 I think haha!), but work is a little too busy. It's a ground I've never been to despite all our time in the conference.

...I'll drive N'Gala back for a Mars bar? ...No? Thought not.

Another home humiliation. Most of our fans seem happy to accept these drubbings we're getting which is baffling. We have got a fantastic team that is being let down by some atrocious tactics at home but it's ok because we're third apparently.

Seriously, we have the most unambitious fans.

I used to live in Stevenage and would say it's probably the most unambitious town let alone football team, it must just be something in the water!
Haha it is certainly a strange place. I've never lived there myself (only 10 miles up the road mind), but I've certainly taken to the club. It's run on a shoe string to very minimal losses by a very ambitious chairman. But the fans aren't half a strange bunch.

(A click on your profile shows we're in a very similar occupation actually!)

I'm just north of Baldock (sister runs Hay'z Hair in Shefford actually). I work over near Saffron Walden though as automotive tooling designer - but looking to get into BIW design when my CAD skills peak.

Just to add something topical - Sheffield United away on Saturday - our recent performances have deterred my mates which means no Sheffield weekender frown

Haha, fully predicted. Our early season tactics of playing so, so defensively and relying on breakaway goals has gone to st after an injury to Ashton the animal.

And what's really fked me off, our fans called for our experienced keeper, Chris Day to be dropped. He has never conceded 4 goals in a league game for us (4 YEARS!!!) - only a 4-1 loss to Southampton in the League Cup, he clearly plays a huge roll in organising the defense but our retarded fking fans started moaning when he dropped a shot and cost us 2 points to Shrewsbury. The new keeper, after a couple of hald decent performances and an exceptional one at Dons, has now conceded 16 in 5 games, but apparently there was nothing he he could have done and can't tale any blame. fking mongs.

Away Tuesday are a no go until I get some more holiday to use. Only got a few days left which I need in case it snows really.

I didn't do Bournemouth last year either frown

Given your form and our managers obsession with 2 defensive midfielders and the most negative tactics you'll ever see, you could be the first team to knock 5 past us since Wrexham, 4 years ago.

Re Chris Day. I went to cover a behind-closed-doors friendly between Stevenage and Yeovil a couple of pre-seasons ago. Filmed it and did a match report from behind the goal at the training base and its the first time I've been able to listen to how a keeper organises his team before.

Non-stop barking from the first minute to the last from Chris Day. Always encouraging, organising, explaining and cajoling his defence and this was a friendly for goodness sake. Always rated him.
That's quite interesting actually. I've had my head bitten off on the Stevenage forum for laying some blame on the young, inexperienced keeper. Ever since he's been in goal, opposing teams seem to be winning so many more headers in the box and we have conceded so many goals from in the box and there hasn't been a defender within 5 yards.

For just saying the goal keeper plays a huge roll in organising the defence, 2 or 3 instantly slated me and said it's 100% down to the back 4. I've not bothered posting since.

I'd say it was a fairly deserved draw against Tranmere on Saturday. Another screamer from Greag Tansey, 6 goals this season, 5 of them screamers, the other was in off the bar from 16 yards.

Just a shame we had to wait until Tranmere scored before the manager showed any interest in scoring.

Despite our budget, we have got a very strong squad, that given there doesn't seem to be any stand out teams, this could really be a chance to land a money spinning season or two in the Championship.

Saturday was the first time in just over 3 years Stevenage lost after taking the lead frown

Another incredibly frustrating performance against a pretty poor Crawley team. We are showing teams far too much respect and not committing to attacks until the last 15 minutes. It has worked wonders away from home but at home, when teams play a little bit deeper, we can't break them down.

So many of our fans seem to be happy with it, but there are more and more realising as good as it is where we are, it could and probably should be even better.

And then we managed to do it twice by losing to Cov after taking the lead followed by a dismal showing at Walsall. That false position we were in has been corrected it seems.

Another big win for Swindon on Sat meaning we've scored 16 in the last 4 games without conceding. Bournemouth up next and they are unbeaten in 16 so should be a good match.
That should be a cracking fixture.

I was put off of going to Crewe by Stevenage's pitiful performance at Walsall but it sounds like we went 442 and went on the attack from the start for the first time in a long while - granted went in 1-0 down but turned it around! Very much needed win as some morons were talking of sacking the manager.

Any thoughts onwhat impact the departure of Dean Saunders will have on Doncaster?
None what so ever if Saturday was anything to go by. They're a very well rounded team with a very intimidating back 4 - unfortunately they're a teams of s who preferred to celebrate by sticking fingers up at the home fans rather than celebrating with their fans behind the goal they scored in.

So, after going 3 years of never losing after taking the lead in the league, we've managed it in our last 3 home games frown

Stevenage are in complete free fall at the moment. No home win since October. Thankfully we're quite far away from the relegation battle but that hasn't stopped some of our fans who have been spoiled by the clubs rise through the leagues calling for the managers head - who they'd prefer I don't know - I don't think they even know.

What good they think will come of sacking the manager without even having a replacement is beyond me and sums up the stupidity of some football fans.

Most fans would have taken our current position at the start of the season and just because we had a good start fans now believe the manager has to go, quite unbelievable really.

Given I imagine we operate on the smallest budget already, I'm guessing the idea of having to pay out the manager if he's sacked completely alludes these mongs.

Rant over. Notts County tomorrow who have bit the bullet and sacked another manager - quite a few over the last few years and it's got them no where. Another point our moronic fans don't seem to notice.

ETA - and by freefall, I mean lost 3 in a row for the first time in about 4 years - hardly a crisis.

I wouldn't have thought our budget was all that high yet Gary Johnson has led us to our second longest winning run in our ten season League history. Five in a row now including front runners MK Dons, Brentford and Sheffield United plus Portsmouth and Leyton Orient.

Oldham tomorrow night and Coventry on Saturday. Both tough matches for different reasons of course but if we could pick up four points from six, I think our supporters will truly start to believe this could be our year.

Re changing managers. Johnson came back less than thirteen months ago and he's already the ninth longest serving manager in League One. Madness.
Our fairly comfortable 3-1 win at Huish looks to be our best result of the season at the moment! Yeovil are in exceptional form. Glad to see a fellow 'smaller' club competing against the big spenders in this league.
