Can't believe our resident MOD hasn't posted yet whistle

Guess alcohol poisoning last night has prevented post match posting

Haha, saw the post goal celebrations on the EFL highlights show. I was very pleased to see the goal scorer was Ronan Curtis, once of this parish (Portsmouth).

Meanwhile, we (Pompey) continue to occupy top spot in League 1, despite playing way below our best - Oxford were much the better team yesterday, but we found a way to win.

Much credit to John Mousinho - a rookie manager in his first full season. Despite season ending injuries to five first choice players, we've kept going and it's starting to look like it really could happen. Mousinho's substitution yesterday was a bit of genius and won us the game - take a bow Christian Saydee!

Looking like nobody wants to win L1. We dominated for 45 minutes, only 1 up then conceded 2 within 4 minutes of the restart banghead

Fortunate to get a draw in the end. Other results equally random today.

That second half was probably the best second half we’ve had at home all season - I believe Sonny Cox is now the top teenage goal scorer in L1 this season. Just wish we could have a few more halfs like that before the season’s done.

Was at Bristol Rovers v Derby this afternoon, very one sided with the Rams winning 3-0.

They're by far the best side I've seen at that level this season and better than quite a few at the level above. Dwight Gayle and Connor Hourihane are the bigger names however the likes of Nathaniel Mendez-Laing, Joe Ward and Ebou Adams all starred today. I'll be astonished if they don't get promoted this year.

Well that was the best we've played since Wembley, 5-0 and could have been more. Absolutely purring, just a pity everyone else won tonight.

We're now only 12 points behind now; but more importantly in the play-off zone. Although, being realistic teams 2 points behind us have up to 2 games in hand.

But still, we'll take another win bounce

I'm a Reading fan and posted here about 6 weeks ago after some protests. Well today, there has been some devastating updates.

It's been confirmed that we have reached an agreement-in-principle to sell our training ground (Premier League quality and home to a Category A academy) to Wycombe Wanderers. The estimated value of this training complex is just over £50m and we are selling for just over £20m.

This sale has been rumoured today and confirmed by both clubs. The supporters trust at Reading and senior officials all were unaware of this, with the deal happening behind closed doors. Just like player sales earlier in the season.

To summarise the position and brief history:

  • Dai Yongge (owner) bought two other clubs who both dissolved after 3 years and no longer exist
  • He tried to buy Hull in the Premier League and failed the "fit and proper test"
  • He bought Reading
  • We were mismanaged and ultimate have now been deducted a total of 18 points in 3 years
  • Last season the points deduction led to our relegation
  • There have been unpaid tax bills all season with more deductions and sanctions
  • Canteen staff at the training ground left last month due to unpaid bills of over £100k
  • Hotels for players and the staff are not allowed anymore
  • Players are also brining their own food to training and games now
The end is coming...

It's believed amongst the fans that this spells the beginning of the end. Administration is unlikely - more likely it will be liquidation and the end of the club.

We've been in existence for 152 years and are the10th oldest club in the entire world.

We're still fighting relegation however our future at this point looks bleak at best. The issue is that we will have no training ground, no academy and we also do not own the football stadium either.

We're therefore not appealing to any owners at all. Additionally, attracting players (in League 1 or 2) is difficult. We previously did well here as we had an amazing training facility.

The EFL have absolutely no power to intervene. Coverage across the broadcasters - including local ones - has been dire. I saw a 3 minute segment on SkySports News just before the end of the hour

Football has an ownership problem

Whether we exist or not, this is an issue. It could be your club next. Other clubs have gone and we look to be next. It's a different issue really but seeing the likes of Man City and other big club's conduct makes me sick to be honest. I often say that their sport is completely different to the football I have experienced - not sure if that makes sense.

Anyway, I'm off to cry myself to sleep...

It's absolutely horrific whats happened, and I'm lost for words.

This was posted on the Wimbledon group earlier today, taken from a Wycombe group. And we're in full support; having gone through pain too and that infamous FA quote that we're "not in the wider interests of football" rolleyes

It’s a disgrace, I’m gutted for you and your fellow Reading supporters.

I feel your pain, it was only a few years ago we had the same (I’m a Notts County supporter) we were on the verge of going, it’s horrible. It’s the worse thought ever thinking to yourself my clubs gone and now who am I going to support in future after following a club for nearly 40 years.

Bolton fan been through the same, keep fighting & hoping. We had to sell our training ground / PL academy facility to Wigan at the height of the desperation. If you do pull through like us, this can be an unexpected blessing. Having to put all the squad into crap facilities brought a new attitude and working your way back up from the bottom takes lots of that. We had our local council put a protection order on the Reebok which massively helped getting local investors to come in. Just need the EFL to be empathetic, they were with us, Bury weren’t so lucky, no logic to it.

Redrabbit29 you have my sympathy, and understanding - at least of the impact of dodgy club owners. My team is Portsmouth, and we have been through hell and back over the last fifteen years. Some will scoff and say "Yeah, well you weren't complaining when you won the FA Cup in 2008 with a team built on iffy money, were you?" They have a point, but what we didn't know at the time was that the money wasn't, shall we say, pure in its origins.

Hard to say much more without boring everyone but let's just say that a succession of owners (Gaydamak, some Saudi bloke and a certain Balram Chanrai) left us facing liquidation and without a pot to urinate in. Ultimately the club was saved by a few wealthy chaps and thousands of fans who each put in £1000 of their own money to buy the club from the administrators.

We're now owned by a wealthy American family (the Eisners) who have spent heavily on The Old Lady (Fratton Park) while insisting that our operations remain at least break even . "We eat what we kill" said Michael Eisner, which might explain our six seasons in League 1. I suspect the purse strings have been loosened recently, and we have an outstanding chance of promotion this season.

So I suppose my thoughts are two fold: 1) the EFL are effing useless and the Fit & Proper Persons test is a farce, and 2) even in the darkest days there is still hope. Life after (near) death and all that. PUP!

I’m local to reading, and been to many games over the years and have friends that a huge fans of the team and it’s shocking to see what has been happening. The EFL has been appalling in the way they have managed this, and lacked teeth in getting Dai to sell the club. Their fit and proper persons tests is obviously bull st. I was really hoping the club would be sold, but with the training ground going first you get the feeling the money will be pocketed and Dai will fold the club.

I’m conflicted with regards to Wycombe. It’s not the fans fault, they need a training ground and their owners are looking after their club first and foremost. They might look that buying the training ground allows reading to continue as a club and provides them finances but that all depends on Dai.

I really hope something happens, but with more assets potentially being sold why would anyone buy the club. frown

Getting back to on pitch matters: a brilliant result for Pompey today at Peterborough. We had THIRTEEN players unavailable today through illness or injury, including our entire first choice back four. That, against the highest scorers in the division, and we got a clean sheet. Blimey, it suddenly seems real. Gulp.
