UEFA Finally Start Getting Stuck Into The Clubs Breaking The FFP Regulations

Uefa has imposed its first financial fair play sanctions by temporarily withholding prize money from 23 clubs for failing to comply with the rules.

Europa League winners Atletico Madrid, Malaga, Sporting and Fenerbahce are among those under scrutiny.

Clubs face further investigation because of overdue payments to other clubs, employees or tax authorities.

European football's governing body introduced the rules to force clubs to operate within their means.

The 23 clubs have been given a deadline of 30 September to prove that their finances are in order.

Teams playing in all Uefa club competitions have been monitored since the start of the 2011/12 season.

The are tasked with breaking even in 2012 and 2013 and being assessed during the 2013/14 season.

Looks like a list of clubs that couldn't afford good enough accountants and lawyers to find the loopholes.

I posted on another thread where this came up and I think at least it's a start.

However, it looks like it will only affect clubs that are run as businesses. City and Chelsea wouldn't be affected because as long as they pay their fees the owners don't care about running at a loss. However it United didn't get 40+ mil in prize money I think they'd be in a bit of trouble.

We can only hope this is just step 1 of the crackdown.

I hope this exercise is practice and preparation for when the authorities come down hard on the big guns who are intent on ruining the game.
