The Brendan Rodgers Thread

End of Sept were on 6 pts and bottom 6 > this is optimistic! BR will experience pressure like never before, he is untried under such expectation and there is no "form" could be a Shanks could be a Souey no one here can call it.
He has a very very hard few months ahead to be sure, however maybe the fact that expectations are now plummeting, it may remove the pressure somewhat from him and the players??I like the way he handles himself in the media and has quickly built up a rapport so to speak with the supporters due to the Interview last week. I also like the way he wants us to play nice looking passing football which is exciting to watch.
My one fear is that its quite possible that by the end of October we may only have 6-9 points and November isnt an easy month which could lead to people losing faith and calling for him to go, which would start the entire cycle all over again which in my opinion is something that we cannot afford to do if we want to start moving forward with a settled team, squad, formation and backroom staff.

OK so when SAF first started at MU ( and please excuse my ignorance of the history of the Mancs ) from what I read and have heard he was NOT an instant success and yet MU stuck by him, do we think that BR is going along a similar road and if given time, resources and crucially support he could build a legacy at his current club? Does he have a similar personality/work ethic/pig headedness as SAF or his mentor Mourinhio?
It's a much quoted example of why managers should be given more time, but the fact is when SAF was hired by MU he already had some serious achievements under his belt. He'd takan Aberdeen from obscurity to break up the Old Firm stranglehold and also win the UEFA cup. Since he left Aberdeen no other club has one the league outside of the Old Firm and no Scottish club has won a European title.MU therefore knew that he was no mug and could definitely deliver results that he could claim 100% as his own.
Ultimately I think comparisons with him are invalid as, love or hate him, he's more or less unique.

I wouldn't think comparing SAF to Wenger to Rogers etc as a 1:1 comparison would do any one any favours, however I think there is real value in looking at the likes of SAF and the time he was given as an example of how IMVHO Rogers stint at Liverpool should be viewed. MU therefore knew that he was no mug and could definitely deliver results that he could claim 100% as his own.

I think Sunderland will be a massive game and will either be a great game (win) or load him up a great deal of pressure.
Whatever the result resorting to name calling and wanting him sacked won't be the answer - who would be our saviour anyway?
On a side note having a football thread without Liverpool is going to be difficult, especially with our current form being highly amusing to everyone else.

I will admit to not being thrilled with BR's appointment but I was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. I am afraid that with the AC fiasco, the inability to buy a replacement striker and the shockingly bad results and performances (excluding the city match when I think we did ok) I am rapidly running out of patience. I havent seen any signs of improvement from when KK was in charge and BR's inability to change his tactics is becoming ever more glaringly apparent.
On the performances so far this season, next year we will not be playing in europe and tbh I think we will be lucky if we arent playing in the championship. IMO this season will be a complete and utter disaster.

Goes back to giving the guy a decent shot at it, and that may well not be one season. Lot of criticism leveled at him for the striker story, but I am not sure the whole story is out in the open. Lot of psoitives from the City game, but we need to build on that. Managers cannot be blamed when their players get teed up on goal and miss time after time that is down to the individual on the pitch surely??On the performances so far this season, next year we will not be playing in europe and tbh I think we will be lucky if we arent playing in the championship. How has this thread survived where others have been stamped on like a bag of unwanted puppies?
Everyone's getting on fine.Let's keep it that way, and you never know .....
Although the mod-bashing does not help. People either have very selective memories, or are not aware of what's gone on in the past. But happy to move on, so keep it up
All BR has done so far is talked a good game. Some will say 'shame the fixture list hasn't helped' although being humiliated away by West Brom (with the greatest respect to the West Brom fans on here) wasn't exactly a difficult game. Arsenal came to Anfield with their most average team in years (again no disrespect intended) and easily beat us as well. The signs aren't good. He has no footballing pedigree, has gone from managing a decent Swansea team that are playing better without him, to managing one of the biggest clubs in the world. Sunderland away is huge.
Nonetheless, I feel he'll get all season unless we're sat in a relegation spot come Xmas. After all he was FSG's man and he's far too young to turn on the owners.
Of course calling him names won't help so I'll stick with referring to him as Buck Rodgers. At the rate we're going it'll be the 25th century or whatever it was before we're anywhere near a force again.
As for this thread not being closed - well if it is allowed to become the unofficial official Liverpool thread then we'll all have to presume its ok to abuse other posters without sanction and/or that some posters are above the rules and can do what they want.
Whilst I clearly want a Liverpool thread I can't see how it can be allowed to happen without some clarification by the mods else it'll only be a matter of time before someone expresses a dissenting opinion and gets jumped on by the same clique.

I think he should be given time. People keep going on about how we're in the bottom 3 etc but realisticly i cant see us being there come may. If we're top half this season i'll be happy enough as he needs time to build his squad and not just using a hodge podge of the last 3 managers teams.
So far his signings seem to be ok, allen in particular has done pretty well even if he hasnt set the world alight. However i would have liked to see carroll stay, its even worse that he wasn't replaced! Whether that is down to rodgers/ayre/fsg is yet to be seen.
I have not seen any of the games yet because im in the US at the moment so cannot really comment on the game performance.

Sunderland is huge for BR but remember a lot of our players have been round the world this week not so much a problem for Sunderland - LS will be knackerd and SG played like a man possessed last night as such
We may get rolled on Saturday purely due to the internationals - its not easy being a footy manager!

I hope the answers that people are looking for are in there as well. Sadly I think this will open up alot of old wounds.
I can't help but think this will produce more questions than it'll answer. But still, a step in the right direction and I can't see why they were ever secret in the first place.Gassing Station | Football | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
