To be fair, Downing actually took on (and passed) two players on Saturday!
Was that walking past the subs bench, to take his bib off?
Nope, he had the ball at his feet and was on the pitch! It was the highlight of the game for me, and one for his 'best moments of the season' DVD.

I've a lot of time for Sterling. I think the team who cannot be named are very fortunate they didn't loan him out as they were considering at the start of the season.

Exciting season for him I think!
Exactly! I suggested as much when we failed to get Dempsey. I think if we had got Dempsey, the amount of game time Sterling would have got by now would have been drastically reduced.
Sterling did indeed look good at the weekend, but his progress can only be judged when he comes up against the better full backs, when he plays against the likes of ashley cole we will get a better valuation of his skills, He does look the part though . Reminds me of Lennon when he was younger, you will do well to keep him if he continues to show such promise,

For the game at Anfield, I thik it was Kolo Toure.

The only reason I am a little concerned (and not for Sterling, he's young, he'll be loving this), but for the team who cannot be named is that we were considering loaning him a few months ago... Now forgive me if I'm wrong, but it seems our tactics recently seem to be to get the ball to Sterling, and let him do the business.

From a team point of view... If he had been poo, what would the original plan A have been? Pass to Downing/Boroni?

I Think burning youngsters out is over hyped, I used to play twice on a saturday at 17 and two or three nights 7 aside... Never suffered any problems.

And their LB, as he switched flanks a number of times during the game.

Totally agree on the burning out - utter balls

As for giving him the ball if you ask me one of our main problems at the moment is were not giving him the ball enough....

Well, I merely speak drawing comparisons with what happened to Owen and Fowler. Both played a LOT from very young, and both not really achieving anything/falling away in their mid/late-ish twenties.

I think referring to Owen his biggest problem were his injuries, his goal scoring record pretty much wherever he has been has been 1 in 2

Beckham started early, Giggs did, Scholes did, etc etc

We are talking about athletes here who cant st without it being scrutinised, they eat the best, train the best and recover the best.

I really think starting this thread when there's a chance of getting a proper thread back in a few days is possibly a wee bit confrontational and daft...

I actually think this is about Sterling, and possibly him getting burned out etc. Granted he plays for a certain team, but I don't think we have touched on that ... At all (ish).
Its upto the mods if they think it is taking the P... I know they are tired of all the crap, but I think this thread is ok... So stop waving your imaginary cards all over the place wink

NextGen Series holders Inter Milan won 3-2 in the under 19s.

Squad for Euro game is very young:

Among those on the plane were Samed Yesil, Suso, Conor Coady, Andre Wisdom, Adam Morgan, Peter Gulacsi and Dani Pacheco.

More experienced colleagues such as Jamie Carragher, Brad Jones, Stewart Downing, Jose Enrique, Jordan Henderson, Jonjo Shelvey and Sebastian Coates were included in the travelling party, while summer signings Nuri Sahin and Oussama Assaidi have also made the trip

Comparing that to a professionals schedule is ridiculous. Completely different levels. (unless you played professionally.) As a gooner, I watched Jack Wilshere become the centre man of a team consisting of nasri, cesc and RVP at just 17. He could outclass every player on the pitch including both Xavi and Inesita when they visited the Emirates. 1 year on and after missing last season entirely, he's only now just coming back to full training. Burning out is a very serious consequence of using someone who hasn't fully developed physically, continually. Arsenal are paying that price at the moment.

Played very well again today, was surprised he got taken off by Rodgers. Think he needs to have a go more often. There were a couple of times when he should have had a go rather than set it up for someone in a harder position.

What's more pressure, starting a game or coming on with an expectation of changing one? Regardless he sure doesn't look out of place.

Always good to get a first hand report. Must admit I was a bit puzzled at that one, watching on tv, but at makes perfect sense then.
