Make the official team threads for the team supporters only. Will get rid of 90% of the "banter" and repeating arguments/debate that most of the actual fans know about, but non fans use intentionally to start arguments.
I don't know how tricky it would be to implement, but a a sticky at the top of the forum stating that the official threads are only for fans of that team would be pretty clear. The thread regulars will know who belongs in which thread, and the sign will be at the top of the forum, so there's no excuses.
I say that only because it worked on the Football 365 forums, and it was the only way to stop the trolling from opposite supporters. And there is an awful lot of that, whether any of them will admit it or not, it's just too obvious, and should be, even to a neutral.

You banned one poster. You solved the problem. You let him back in. The problem returned
We can talk until we're blue in the face, but this is the uncomfortable truth. And for the umpteenth time, it's not about a difference of opinion. If either of you can't deal with me posting on the LFC thread, I also think you're going to struggle. What do you want me banned exactly for? Having an opinion you disagree with? As for your assertion that I am somehow alone responsible for the 'problem'. Really?
People have different opinions. As long as they're not breaking the rules in expressing them that's fine. Deal with it or don't post. Simple really.
This will be only the second time I've responded directly to you in months. I called you a gobste due to your persistent labeling of everyone in the thread as, and I quote, "FSG apologists and bumlickers". The fact is we were all slagging them off. To me, the continued use of that tone of language seems designed to deliberately wind everyone up.
The more you were ignored the more emotive your language and postings became. The fact is the vast majority of Liverpool fans which contribute to the thread are antagonised by your posting style - not your opinion which you are fully entitled to. You will obviously garner support from fans of other teams because it is fun for them to see our thread in meltdown.
My opinion is that if you and you alone did not post in the manner that you do, then this thread and this problem would not exist. Many people have responded to your inflammatory posts with incredulity and disbelief. One is forced, then, to muse upon where the precise problem lies.

Why quote posts you haven't read? Solely to wind people up. This is not about opinions, it's about the constant abuse you hurl just to get a reaction.
When he was gone, the thread ran smoothly. There was the odd scuffle with a spud but nothing serious. Then the fans of other teams began calling for his release because they enjoy reading the havoc he causes on the LFC thread. Whilst his posts are not specificallly against the rules, it's painfully obvious that his banning from the football forum would make it a much more harmonious place. You can't make an omelette without breaking a few eggs etc.TheHeretic said:

IMO its not what he says, its how he says it. Several posters tend to agree with what he posts, several agreed with what he had to say last season.
But does he have to be so...... 'inflammatory' (for lack of a better word) about it? - Half of his posts are sensible, well made, opinionated posts that could lead to a decent, if possibly heated discussion. But due to the way he insists on posting they lead to nothing other than abuse being hurled.
Saying "ignore it" might have washed three seasons ago, but it does get tiresome and quite obviously wears some posters down rather rapidly, and I have to agree with an earlier comment that the more it is ignored - the worse it gets.
And despite 8 pages of discussion about "the football forum" we all know that this discussion is actually about the Liverpool Thread and how to handle the constant bickering, arguing, and abuse that goes on in there - not between Reds & other fans but simply between fans of Liverpool.
I think you mods have a very difficult job on your hands, but I am grateful you guys do the job you do, so we can have this forum. Its certainley not a job I'd like to do, and I'm also led to believe you aren't paid for the job either, so its pretty easy to see why patience has run out.
I think it would be a real shame if there were no football forum. It all well and good saying go to a deicated forum for your club, but you don't get the same views or perspectives on other clubs.
I think you should go with the 3 strike rule.

I'm an adult with children. Have you ever tried to ignore a crying baby? They cry louder, and louder, and louder until your whole mental being is broken, and you just have to give them some attention.andyjo1982 said:

But isn't that baseball Surely yellow then red would be more apt.
TBH I enjoy reading the threads in this forum as I'm not particularly knowlegeable in football. Thus the opinions here are often very useful e.g. post match analyses etc (perhaps that sounds a little too high brow for here but anyway).
What I don't like, however, is the baiting and what I would consider to be slightly malicious ribbing between fans. Maybe I'm pretty tame but sometimes it seems that people love to stick the knife in. I guess that's one side of football but one I can't stand.
A bit of banter is great but how you draw the line is a tough one and don't envy the mods for having to make that decision. Would love for this forum to keep going tho
