Being a mod seems to be a cursed decision, I wouldn't wish that upon anyone. I do think that for it to weed out miscreants it needs to be effective. The yellow card/red card seems to be a good idea, (and on topic as well, which is a bonus).

Good luck sorting it out.
I must be warped then, I'm a mod on a police forum, a recovery forum and a wagon drivers forum!!!

You would make a good mod if you had the time.

I'd like to know what a 'recovery forum' is.

Thanks for the comments so far guys, really like some of the suggestions and I'm pleased you're largely in agreement.

Just home, dinner first then I'll reply in more detail.

I did mention the yellow/red card a while back.
This would work thumbup

But would a red card be a permanent ban?
Seven/fourteen day sin bin - not able to post in the footy section.

Don't forget that the rules here would be no different to the rest of PH. So a ban would be a permanent ban from PH.

I don't understand why the football forum requires different rules from the rest of PH to be honest. Just ban the idiots who transgress like on any other part of PH.

A two tier punishment system hardly seems fair on posters in say the Lounge. They shouldn't be subject to different rules just because they don't follow football.

Sorry but appeasement of the posters on the football forum, however well intentioned, is not a balanced way to proceed.

People get banned from threads for posting spoilers in tv and film, are they banned from all of PH? (Other than repeat offenders)

I have not seen one thread in the footy section with the level of venom that was posted in the threads with users Nolar Dog or Utterly Clueless/Acid drop.

Rule 3 was often ignored by users and admin alike so perhaps a "posting guidelines" sticky could be made for the footy section that goes further than the normal posting rules?

Red & yellows would need to be discreet as well I think, otherwise you'll end up with people trying to provoke a reponse to get posters banned.

There have been petty arguments etc in many of the football threads, but only the Liverpool thread seems to be causing the really big problems.

Not having the thread at all isn't going to work long term, the discussions will just take place in other threads, not having a football forum, I can't see working either, the sports forum would suffer then.

There are only two solutions that I can see,

1: No modding of the forum at all - which PH would never agree too. (Understandable)

2: Extremely heavy handed modding, firm rules set down so everyone know where they are starting from, and after that - maybe a warning - with a month long ban from the football forum and after that a total ban from ALL of PH. As football fans we should all be able to distinguish between a bit of banter between fans, see when a decent debate / argument is a worthy debate and also know when people are going to far. If people know what they are likely to lose surely it should act as a decent incentive to behave. I know people have been banned from threads in the past but have then been let back in etc, under the new rules, a ban woudl be a ban.

Too harsh? Too tough on the mods? Too tough on us?

Personally I see the PH football forum than other football forums. I'm here for the love of cars rather than football.

We do get the odd troll in the Leeds thread, but they're really not worth the time. However if they did the same on the Leeds forum I'm on, I might have a different view.

Deliberately provoke arguments or continue arguments that have calmed down, or have had the
thread closed.

I think tougher enforcement of the above posting rule could have a positive effect, I understand some leeway has been given in the name of 'banter' but I don't think it should be, people can behave on here as evidenced by the predicathon thread, piss about and you are out

I believe that posting in these forums is a privilege not a right. This is essentially a car site first and foremost yet we have a number of posters who post solely in these threads and nowhere else. A case in point would have been John who when banned from the footy forums ceased to use PH. No loss then imo. So if people are using on the footy forums and stirring up trouble then I think they should just be binned no its no buts

I would rather see a few people binned to see others have to reign themselves in and we keep these forums

I think the two tier system is needed because some posters do get a bit emotional over certain subjects and may say something they regret so I say give them a chance.

Obviously if they break PH rules then a permanent ban maybe the only way.

Fair point, but the rules would stay the same and the 'cards' would be based on the temp bans/ temp forum bans we already use.

It's a better way to stop a forum dying, more than a way to appease.

Out the back of Ashley Cole?

Give it a week and the LFC thread will descend into madness. Same old posters cause 90% of the issue so why not ban them instead?

Bet you don't have this problem in the rugby forum? ;-)

Really glad to see this thread Paul. I have given you my take on things earlier and hopefully you can restore some sense to the forum.

Rather than the mod changing any offending posts get the original poster to amend their post & apologise for their behaviour.

If they refuse - ban them from the thread.

If they persist then ban them from the Forum.

If the post is offensive / aggressive - Just ban them immediately (from PH).

If they are Spuds - no warnings to be given at all - Just ban them straight away (from the Internet smile)
