wasn't he one of our best players last season? or even voted player of the season. Naa quality player, slow start for him yes but I think Rogers system suits his style of play personally.
Had 4 good months then was awful for rest... Not sure why the massive change but he has started this season how he finished the last and is not worthy of a starting place although he will be back if Kelly is out.Would like to see how Kelly does in his natural position (CB) a few times this season while there's injuries and the other youngster (forget his name, was captain of u19's last season) gets some minutes.
On the tackle. My first thought was it is simply a 50/50 tough tackle & was just as surprised as Shelvy to see him get a red. Replay obviously shows he should have maybe got a yellow and the mank should have got the red. Valencia should also have a yellow for being a fairy in the box.
Gotta agree with Raja too, once Sterling went off we lost the outlet which in turn lets the other team have more a say in possession. Wrong decision imo.

Says it all UF.One side-footed lunge off the floor (IMO an attempted block which was successful, hence the side foot), one two footed studs showing leg breaker also off the floor. One red card. Momentum carried the pair together, ref in a good position.
Ahhhhh well.
Suso looked good, Onwards and upwards, we can't really go much further down.

I missed the coverage yesterday but heard much about the 'tackle'.Seriously, he got sent off for that?
Looks like 6 of one and half a dozen of the other to me based on this clip. Easier seeing it in slow mo, mind. But even so, what was the ref doing sending one of them off? Either both, or neither, surely?

Sorry Craig but thats picture is very one sided. Evans had already won the ball by that time, with his studs pointing to the floor, and this picture shows the position after Shelvey has already committed the offence without winning the ball, and has already changed the position of Evans foot with his tackle. This photo prooves it... in your photo shelvy has already missed contact with the ball and hit Evans's legs.
I have just taken this pictureFor me you can see Jonjo's left leg is not near him, his right foot has clearly got to the ball 1st and the UTD lad is 2 feet off the floor jumping in. He has no way of controlling himself here at all, so for me it should have been Red to him and nothing to Jonjo as he clearly got the ball.
Ref cannot obviously see this at normal speed so we should appeal.
At no point is Shelvy in contol. Yes Evans goes in with ot feet, but neither are raised. The two footed tackle is currently not against FIFA rules (as seems to be widly assumed).
The only player that was going to be hurt from this clash was Evans. I do think a red was harsh as its pretty 50/50 though.
It was a classic, old fashioned 50:50. However, in today's game you have to be in control. IMO they were both out of control, but only one of them got injured.
I would guess that if they were both fine, or both injured a red card wouldn't have been shown.
Hardly a "terrible" decision and won't be the worst you'll see this season either.

Wilson should get more chances, we can only be happy with this as so far the youth are doing themself proud.

Jonjo Shelvey @shelveyJ
I apologise to the fans for getting sent off but no way was I pulling out of that tackle in a game of that importance. Im sorry.
Fair play to him, cant argue with that, if he had pulled out crowd would have gone mad if he pulled out.

Kelly out for the rest of 2012.
Big shame. But Enrique will no doubt come good again - he's a class player who's just had a bad start this season. As Reina has. No-one suggests he should be dropped...The Shelvey tackle is gone. We had poor decisions in that game against us, not just that one. Last week Chelsea had 2 blatant penalties denied them, which made a nice change from the usual soft decisions. No doubt we will get some decisions go our way at some point.
Move on, concentrate on the positives, of which there were many yesterday. Suso looked class before his one mistake and will no doubt get better - he looked determined to take his chance again after doing the same in the Europa game; obviously why he was on the bench and Pacheco wasn't...

I hope Flanagan doesn't get the Kelly slot for important games, sideshows maybe but not our relegation battle matches.
I think one of Rogers' strengths is bringing on the young players - he will hopefully manage them all properly. Or at least as best he can with the lack of resources at his disposal.Gassing Station | Football | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
