Many on my facebook/twitter feed said:
Jonjo Shelvey gets sent off on 38:58

Steven Gerrard scores on 45:51

Rafael equalises on 51:45

Robin Van Persie scores the penalty on 80:16

Each minute adds with it's seconds to make 96.
The collective gullibility of society never ceases to astound me.

It's not really gullibility is it? It's just an observation of coincidence?

It's only gullibility if people think that those coincidences mean something.

Football reports don't normally go down to an accuracy of a second when reporting events. You could make anything up for the seconds as long as you got the minute correct.

Not following soccer, I have no idea if things are reported/recorded to the second or not. I suspect if you went through each of the matches this weekend you could find co-incidences enough not to need to make up data. That's the beauty of cherry-picking data points and statistics.

They don't mean anything of course, there's no underlying cause of the coincidences to get people excited.

It's just a glitch in the matrix. The Mayan prophesy is when they turn it off.

They all add up to 96.

There are 5 of them.

Add the 5 to the 6 and you get 11. This would then give you a 9 and an 11.....

It's far too easy to find "hidden meaning" in coincidence

Did you know that "Mark Ibrahim Halsey" is an anagram of "Munich Air Crash"?

If you take the phrase 'America loves everyone, all over the world', take out loads of letters, add in some other letters and move them around a bit you get...

'All Muslims are terrorists'

yikes
