Nothing quite like a bit of segregation to battle racism, is there? Is it just me that thinks many careers will be created from this?

I can't help but be cynical.

Likewise, I can't help but think this isn't the road to go down.

I heard H & J talking about this yesterday, how dumb would this be eh ?

So if theres a black players union the surely there should be a white players union as well , where does it end ?

Where does it stop though? Do we then need an Asian players union, a South American players Union? North American? it wont be too long until you have to have a number of black & Asian players, coaching staff at your club. Im not trying to belittle the situation, its important that everyone is equal and no one is subject to abuse or discrimination based on the colour of their skin, culture or beliefs but you cant help but wonder if the way people are going about this is causing more problems than its solving.

Colour specific groups/unions/associations only serve to widen the gap between races. I don't see hoards of white players etc running off to start a white only union in light of Rio Ferdinands anti-white outburst.

How can anything be all inclusive and totally free of discrimination when you have to be of a certain type to be part of it? If this gets off the ground it will make matters worse not better. It could lead to black players not taking part in matches over grievences for a start.

There was a time in the not too distant past where it was necessary to form minority support and campaigning groups. It was an effective technique to progress against injustices that minority groups faced in society.

Minority groups still face injustice and inequality. The methods for today must encompass support from a wider demographic imo. Failing to do so is actually counter productive.

So yes. A bad idea.

+1 Bad idea.

However...looking at it from the disaffected players point of view, to have come to this point led by presumably well off people living otherwise very comfortable lives with which it must be hard to be dissatisfied; represents a failure on the part of the PFA.

Clearly those players feel they are not being represented by their own union & have reached the point where they have to act. Anyone else going to work & getting called a fking black on the shop floor would be round H.R. in a shot. Too right as well.

As far as I can tell, kick it out is a sop to the issue & doesn't appear to be remotely effective. The FA as usual are completely inconsistent & I would not want to be in Clarke Carlisle's shoes. Partly because he's a useless full back but mostly because it's an uncomfortable position being a black head of the PFA & standing accused of failing black players.

Am I missing something here, or did I dream that Rio was recently fined £45K for retweeting a racially offense remark about Ashley Cole? Or are black players immune from racially abusing other black players.

This surely is the nub of it. These guys simply do not deserve to have to put with any of the abuse that is served up to them week in week out. And the FA and clubs do the bare minimum, if that. The other football authorities are no better. Shocking neglect of responsibilities.

I doubt they want it - this is just a stick to beat the FA with. And rightly bloody so, frankly.

I assume he is talking about his affirming retweet about Ashley Cole, "choc-ice".

Will he want to? Given he was racially abused by the founder!

Isn't this what the proposed black player's union will be stamping out, unless he forms a choc-ice union?

Exactly my thoughts. They could go a step further and create black canteens, black pubs and black parks....oh hang on, I think someone tried that.

Whats even worse is that this is an utterly mental massive moutain out of a molehill situation.
As far as I am concerned racism is all-but dead from British football now. This all seems to centre around one comment from one complete neanderthal idiot.
I genuinely cannot get my head around it

But hold on....just how black must you be to get into the Black Players Union? What about mixed race? Or is that an entirely different Union??

do white people not have any ethnicity?

I wonder will they refuse anyone entry who's 'not black enough'?

will they be doing mitochondrial DNA tests?

could Ryan Giggs get in for example, he's got dark curly hair
