Interesting quotes from his manager at Cologne when he came to Arsenal

http://www.espn.co.uk/espn/sport/story/172576.html

"I am happy that Podolski has left Cologne," Vogts said. "He had too many friends in the city. He got praised as a great runner if he ever got back to defend three times in a game.

"He got an easy ride and he believed his own publicity. But now he has a coach at Arsenal in Arsene Wenger who will make him work hard in training as well as matches.

"If Podolski fails to train properly twice or three times he won't get games. That is the way to develop him into a true professional."

Unbelievable finisher without a doubt.
Interesting. The worrying thing for me is the scouting. He is not the only one. Arshavin, Eboue, Chamakh, Santos and most oddly all all Park. What did he get? 2 games?

Can our scouts not spot their shortcomings? I find it amazing that the likes of Southampton, West Ham can pick up players on the cheap and they can do a job. Yet we spend some decent money on some of those and after a couple of games the manager decides he can't trust them.

Their seems something very wrong at the club. From transfers, scouting, training, injuries, same old mistakes time and time again. I'm not holding my breath for any signings this window. How many times have we been here? In fact we shouldn't even be hoping for any signings because they should have been made in the summer.

I love Arsene and what he has done, but he is the only consistent factor in this mess.

The stupid thing is we've been having the same debate about transfers on the LFC topic for the last 5 months, despite many of our summer signings now performing quite well.

You've picked out two clubs that just seem to have done quite well this year. Southampton are just a freak, like Atletico, who seem to be able to remain stable regardless of players or manager. West Ham have only got it right this summer. That's 18 other clubs that only performed averagely, or worse.

I think a lot of fans need to readdress their expectations. Not every single transfer will be a success, in fact on average a third will be complete flops. I think if you were to analyse your transfers, you'll probably find you're above average.

I think he signed Poldi hoping he'd be able to take him to the next level...at the time we signed him we a) didn't have that much cash and b) there weren't many 80 cap international strikers going for £10mil.

I guess there's a reason why he only cost £10mil and why we can only get £5mil for him now. That's what Liverpool paid for Ricky Lambert....

I'm hoping there will be a few medicals or confirmed signings tomorrow however, I'm expecting all the names to be linked with us all the way up to the transfer deadline countdown on SKY waiting for another Kallstrom etc.

We can only hope that the outbound player(s) are signs of imminent activity.

No, I expect honesty and if you can't be honest say nothing at all. We shouldn't be letting Podolski go anywhere he should be a part of the team on a more regular basis than he has been frankly.
Why? He's left foot is the only good thing about him confused

I loved him for his personality more then his football ability. I wish him well but not fussed his gone. Hopefully Sanogo and Campbell are next.

I think we're stuck with Giroud and Welbeck for the immediate future. Giroud I don't mind as a 2nd striker, but Welbeck should never have been bought. Rather see Akpom in the team then him frankly.

I wasn't much of a fan from what I'd seen on TV tbh, but I've been swayed by his performances on pitch in the games I've seen in person at the Emirates this season so far - when he was played in the central role while Giroud was out injured.
Playing Giroud in the centre with Welbeck wide doesn't work IMHO. And I'd rather see Welbeck as prime central striker with Giroud as No.2.

I know it's a running joke. But seriously, how difficult is it for a grown man to zip up a jacket!

Podolski's record for Arsenal is very good. He's an impact player, a modern day Perry if you like. If his left foot is the only thing he's got then it's a bloody good one and I'll take that over a lot of the other duffers.

Akpom instead of Welbeck, that's plain stupid. Welbeck has performed very well for us. Unfortunately as soon as Giroud came back from injury Welbeck was shunted out wide, which is exactly the problem he had at United. He played back in the centre forward position at West Ham and scored, a coincidence ? Possibly, but his record shows when he plays centre forward he scores goals.

Akpom is a talent. I hope he comes good, however he shouldn't be considered a back up this time.

Only got to watch bits of the second half but thought the signs of Walcott and Sanchez combining looked promising....with Sanchez's pace and movement he is goong to create a lot of space for Walcott to run into.

I'll take Rosicky as an impact player over Poldi. He's hardly had a sniff this season and has come back and shown he really wants it.

I disagree, Welbeck has been better then i expected and has put in a handful of good performances. But he was bought into the team to score goals. and he's not been hitting the net as consistently as he should for my liking. And If he's not scoring what use is he? I'd back Giroud to score more goals over him everytime.
As for Akpom he's far too good for the acadamy set up, and looks as if he's a far more talented player them Welbeck, I think he deserves his chance.

Thank fk for Alexis, Barca must be pissed, Suarez hasn't exactly showed value for money lately.

Akpom's is....which I guess is why he's getting game time. Bit like Theo getting a run in the middle.
