When 3-1 up, why allow Rojo and Rafael to keep getting caught out of position? Why not keep a solid back 4, ensuring cover and make the midfielders do the leg work. Maybe go 4-5-1, surely that's better than allowing the fullbacks to bomb on, meaning you're asking centre halves to split to cover the space vacated and to drop Blind back a little to make a 3?
Van Gaal's tactics were all wrong yesterday. You could see Blackett and Rojo weren't having great games, coupled with a dodgy Smalling coming back in, he should have kept them together as a tighter unit. The game was arguably won at 3-1.
I have to say though I thought our passing was nowhere near good enough which you have to have if you're going to play with a system that's geared around possession.
Why wasn't he giving clear instructions from the touchline to the players to keep their shape? Is it beneath him to get up from his chair and talk to the players?
As for Clattenburg, what the fk did he think he was doing with that first penalty? If the shove on Rafael wasn't a clear foul then I for one don't know what is anymore. Then the player steps across Rafa and goes down under no duress. Rafa knew he couldn't make a tackle but had to get close. fking shocking refereeing.

Leicester fan here, quite an incredible game from our point of view.
Totally understand the Man U fans being upset by the penalty, I couldn't believe the foul wasn't given, I actually laughed out loud when the ref gave the pen, couldn't believe it.
whether we would have scored under different circumstances is always a debate, but I'm glad that we went on to get another 3, so as to take some of the 'win' away from a dodgy pen.
We were dead lucky to face Utd so out of sorts, I don't think they'll play this badly again for a long time. I cant help but think as well that for all LVG talking about Leicester pre match, he didn't really know how we play and got the tactics wrong as a result, talking about us being a long ball side for example (yes we can be but that's not all we do...)
still, cracking entertainment !

Thanks for a constructive post. It makes a changes from the tedium of the ABUs/WUMs/Onanists.Totally understand the Man U fans being upset by the penalty, I couldn't believe the foul wasn't given, I actually laughed out loud when the ref gave the pen, couldn't believe it.

Leicester played well. Played as a team. Commited. Kept on going when two down twice. Good on them.

You don't have to be a rocket scientist to see what's wrong. VG will sort it.
Did he purposely decide not to sort it before? I mean, us humble folk knew where the problem was a while ago.Cheib said:

We lost 5-3 to an exceptional Leicester performance, fair play to them. As Keyser has said compared with this time last year I am loving it. 1996 under Fergie with Cantona in his pomp we got done by Newcastle 5-0, then Southampton 6-3 and then a poor Chelsea beat us as well, three league defeats and on the spin and a fourth was seen in Europe. How did that season end up?
The st I saw at Old Trafford last season , weak lifeless 1-0 defeats to teams that haven't had their day for years was far far worse than this. The attacking line up seems to be gelling very very quickly and as recent history at United proves, new defensive players take longer to bed in. Remember Vidic and Evra joining as unheard of young players? They had a nightmare settling in. Going back further Pallister was a fault for all 5 goals in derby spanking early on after joining. How did they turn out?
Why did Arsenal want Smalling? Jones, like him or not his stats were second best in the league before his injury. Blackett, Rojo and Blind are all new to the first team the latter having only played twice and we have yet to see Shaw. Finally we lost our most experienced defender during the Leicester match. Losing Rio, Vidic and Evra was a blow, the latter 2 more so but we get ste for not giving the youngsters a chance then ste for not signing a "world class" centre half! Who was available?
The Dutch Master will be drilling the fk out of the the defence, shaping the line using the errors made this season so far. You know what I think he'll get it right and not only will be playing the best football we've seen since Ronnie left will be back to winning ways as well.

I don't know if you watch football much (it's unclear as you seem surprised by some pretty obvious things)but it's quite common practice for fans of other teams to take delight in opposing teams losing...especially to teams they are expected to beat. I've got no doubt that Utd will get better, but so far you've played 3 promoted teams and 2 other teams that finished in the bottom half of the table last year...and most likely will again this year, and you have 5 points. Will be interesting to see what happens when you play the big boys again.
