While everyone is putting the boot in on the players, may as well join in!
No, seriously though, I've looked a few times and Mignolet's decision to come off his line for the third goal looks decidedly suspect. The ball comes back in and initially he stays but then comes out; trouble is, the delay means he can't get there quick enough and he's caught in no man's land.
I rated Mignolet when he was at Sunderland and thought he'd be a good signing but IMO, you need to invest in a new one to provide REAL competition in January.
A regular back 4 might help him plus the keystone cops defending cant help - I am sure he feels like a one man defence, the guy must be a nervous wreck - put yourself in his position and think how you would feel - terrified. No, seriously though, I've looked a few times and Mignolet's decision to come off his line for the third goal looks decidedly suspect. Gets really tedious, we have lost one of the best players in the world & our other main sriker is injured and has been for some time, plus we have lots of new faces. What did we really expect? People seem to have been swept away by last season where we massively over achived, when really our goal was to finish top four. I personally think we will have a great team soon, yes our defence is shambolic, but that can be improved, aside from that I think we have a really exciting midfield with depth now that will only get better, and we need another stiker (or two) to really get going. The team is young and will learn, the manager is still young and will learn.
So bored of the I want it and I want it NOW NOW NOW crap, stability and development is what the club needs, not knee jerk sack the manager after being beaten by the reigning CL holders
100% agree. Rome wasn't built in a day. Ferguson took 4 or 5 years at Utd to get anywhere (the popular example). So bored of the I want it and I want it NOW NOW NOW crap, stability and development is what the club needs, not knee jerk sack the manager after being beaten by the reigning CL holders
Hey, to lift the mood a little, this might cheer you up. Was sent this earlier from a mate...
The big European nights just don't stop with next up Tottenham Hotspur against Asteras Tripolis.
If you're not sure who they are, they are a tinpot club that win fk all, whereas Tripolis finished 3rd in the Greek Super League.
(sorry BCM and Mickk, I know you'll be here shortly)

Can I also say it wa a joy to be in the KOP last night - wow I have never felt YNWA sung like that and the roar was frightening ! Wish it was like this more often
Jammy you experienced something last night I haven't in a long time
And the standing applause for Ronaldo was class, yes he is a Manc but he is also one of the greats and he was rightly applauded

Note mart there has been no wumming from spuds on this thread despite the pasting (or is it gubbing?) unlike on our thread every time we lose. As for last night occasion aside the result is largely irrelevant, since the moment the draw took place its always been about finishing second in the group and that's still very much achievable.
Surly now though Lambert deserves his chance? you cant keep playing Balotelli.

Making saves is not his problem, it's his decision making and distribution
His positioning is awful, 1st goal was great goal, but he was 8 yards off his line for no reason, if he'd been a few yards further back he might have got his fingers to it.I been saying it for 6 months he isn't up to it, and the defence won't improve until he is changed.
I like BR, and think he did a great job last year. I give him a lot of credit for Henderson, FLanno, Sterling etc how he brought them on,and he achieved his 1st goal of getting us back into the champions league. The problem was the squad did need big changes to enable it to fight for titles and keep us in the champions league. Again the recruit seems to have been poor. I think Lallana and louvre will come good, but Lambert/Balo/ Laser were £40m wasted. The problem is 2 of those are forwards and Borini doesnt cut the mustard either so we are bare in that department.
While others on here think Rafa is the answer, I still have faith in BR, but i am worried that he isn't getting to grips as a coach with the defence. he needs to consider Sketel, the guy is a liability and was exposed last night. Johnson, its over, and should just realise him now on a free. Wisdom/Flanno/Tuore we have plenty of right backs who can perform
BR also needs to work out what he wants to play and with whom? So 4-3-3 or diamond etc.
If Mignolet had been two yard further back that finish would still have gone in, but Ronaldo would also have had the option of taking a touch and tapping it into the massive space left at the near post. he also made a great save from Ronaldo from close range later on.
I think the defense is letting him down far more than he's letting the defence down, though he has room for improvement as well.

To be fair, RT hasn't said about sacking him if you read what he posted. He's saying that BR is responsible for the players he has brought in (no arguing with that) and that in his opinion, he won't manage at this level again, ie a top four EPL club.
What exactly is wrong with that?
I guess one thing that could be said is that BR got us back to being a top four club. Since the 2009/2010 season the highest we finished was 6th until last season. What exactly is wrong with that?
I guess with all the Ballo criticism the question is can we get a decent striker in January, or are we just writing this season off due to not being able to get one? I think the main reason for not doing well this season compared to last season is the lack of a striker(s) who can move a lot. The defense is crap, but it was the same last year and we still got second.

Best place ever , behind the goal 28 rows up
Weren't too far from me then, just to left of goal, 32 rows up (block 104).Not sure we can say Lambert is a failure yet. He was a great asset to Southampton last year when they were playing with a very similar style to us. He could be a very useful player to us too. IF he gets used. If not, it will be a waste of 4m,but that won't be Lamberts fault what so ever.

Good article - no easy solution thoughI think a lot of the problems are because of lack of confidence in the GK and he does not control the box, he is good shot stopper but weak at everything else.
Johnson has been a good signing but seems to have his mind set on his next move.
I just think we need to stick with MS and Lovren, they need time together to gel and hopefully with be the answer
