Indeed goody but someone explain to me how "Anti-IRA" chants can be offensive?
It implies that Scottish people are pro-IRA and I can assure you that that's an implication I for one find deeply offensive.
It implies no such thing. Where did you get that from?
Being at the game... Why would you make a chant like "fk the IRA" if you didn't believe the people you were directing it towards were pro-IRA? Anyway, I am not getting into a debate about this, but that is what I took from the chanting.

I guess because the game was at Cetic Park rather than Ibrox or Hampden?

We managed to make you lot good, something only Scotland could probably do, so at least we can take that from the game hehe
I think England managed to make themselves look good actually, but that wasn't particularly difficult against a woefully clueless Scottish side.

Funny though how all the complaints are against the England fans' songs. No mention of the Scots' rather pathetic booing of the national anthem. If it had been at Wembley and the Scots' anthem was booed as vociferously there'd be outrage from the professionally offended.

As a side note, isn't the national anthem the anthem of Great Britain, of which Scotland, whether they like it or not, is still part of? So weren't they, in effect, booing their own anthem?
Maybe they were booing ours because it's 100 years out of date, and embarrassingly ste, basically?

Great to give the Jocks a beating in their own back yard, should have had 5 really.

As for Terry Butcher saying how intimidating it will be and how much the Scots are up for it, I thought they were worse than San Marino biggrin

Lovely jubbly smile

Agreed. At Chelsea we often sign anti Leeds songs, even though we no longer play them as they are in the lower leagues. hehe

Does this mean we're saying the team we're playing are pro Leeds?

Do you point directly at the opposition fans as you sing these songs?

England fans were booing the Scottish 'anthem' too, just they were drowned out by the singing. Seems an odd thing that some English people go up to Scotland and sing anti IRA songs as some kind of taunt to the tartan army, who are presumably not a pro IRA organisation? You'd have the odd situation of English and Scottish Rangers fans singing the same song to upset a minority of Scottish celtic fans?

I'm not convinced that a country that voted to remain part of the UK is pro IRA in any meaningful way whatsoever.

Imagine trying to explain this odd football/tribal/nationalist/religious/bigotry to someone who'd just arrived from outer space. hehe

That's not the same thing at all. England fans don't normally sing anti IRA songs when playing Spain or Lithuania or whoever.

I haven't been to an England game for ages (because I'm a football lover) but when I used to go anti IRA songs were sung at every match.

Pretty obvious the IRA chanting was due to the game being held in Celtic's hovel. It's mostly their supporters who are pretending to be 'offended'.

I was trying to explain it to my girlfriend (who isn't from the UK) this morning and she just laughed at how pathetic it all is. It's actually quite embarrassing!

At West Ham when they sing "We hate Millwall and we are the Millwall haters," the opposing supporters usually join in. laugh

Your typo has left me with renewed respect for the West London Contemptibles - How good of you all to make your speech and hearing impaired supporters feel so included! However signing may not be seen from the opposite end of the ground and hence will lose some of it's impact! wink

Can't disagree with any of that.

The attitude of being the fastest and the biggest still permeates the English game.

There looks to be a group of quality strikers coming through.

Harry Kane
Saido Berahino
Danny Ings
Patrick Bamford

(Although I'm starting to give up on Connor Wickham making it at the highest level).
