The Official England Thread-The Team We All Support [Vol 2]
Discussion
Its interesting to look a the England squad and see an almost complete lack of 'superstars'. I don't think any of the top teams would look at our players and say any of them would get into their starting line-ups.
Perhaps only Kane and Sterling stand out above the rest of the squad at all. And then only just, in comparison to the talent available to Brazil, Germany, Spain, Argentina, France.
Is this a bad thing? Don't think it is. Too often in past WCs our entire squad has underperformed when certain 'Star' players haven't delivered. Perhaps too much reliance on star potential in the past was what caused poor performances.
lets see. It would be really nice to proclaim some England players as being WC superstars after the competition rather than before.

Totally. Even the stupid media have backed off this time and finally we will be just 'giving it a go and seeing what happens' like most average teams that go to the WC.Perhaps only Kane and Sterling stand out above the rest of the squad at all. It’s also great to see Southgate being very relaxed and understated. Seems the whole squad, including the manager, are as one and very chilled.
For once, we're not being spoken about as possible winners.
I'd like us to do well, but we'll get to our level - be nice to find out where that is this time.
It's more the style of football and the determination and willingness to put in a shift and be proud to be there I want to see, we'll finish where we finish ...

Its a strange shift. Even though everyone always knew we wouldnt, they were kind of hopeful in the past. Now everyone thinks we will go out in the group stage. We laughed at the person who got England in the sweepstake at work.
