Lampard: “He carried on his recent form for Liverpool. With Jordan Henderson I wasn’t properly sure what kind of midfielder he was a couple of years ago. But he’s certainly a leader, he’s matured on and off the pitch and he’s used real intelligence to take that role.”

Lampard: “He’s got great drive in him. The one question you mentioned is can he get a pass a bit earlier and we saw that he can tonight.”

I think a few saw last night why I think he offers more than Dier

What changes would you make for the next game ?
Rashford for Sterling
Rose for Young ?
Loftus for Ali if injured ?

Remember the referee in the Nigeria v Croatia match who gave a penalty for wrestling in the area at a set piece?

Well, that's the same Brazilian ref who ignored the incidents in the VAR truck yesterday.

Couldn't make it up...
He also chose to ignore blatant fouling elsewhere, time wasting and the guy stood 6 yards from the ball at every free kick without retreating.
none of which is VARs remit

I am not its biggest fan (and especially last night) but lets keep some facts in amongst the kneejerk reactions

You are wasting your time with the Utd/Spurs haters on here (BCM a notable exceptioneek)

Thought he was excellent last night and his attacking passes were very good

Thought Trippier had a very good game, Kane did what excellent strikers do and took his chances (2nd one wasn't easy either) and I thought Rashford and L-C added some energy and guile and should have been put on 10 mins sooner.
Lingard was a threat but fluffed a couple of really good chances.
Alli was disappointing but presumably because of the knock he got - so why not take him off?
The worries are Sterling who is st in an England shirt and the defence still looks vulnerable - Maguire and Walker have errors in them I feel

Can't argue with any of that
Trippier Impressed me have to say I was not a massive fan before

Would like to see if Rose is fit v Panama, lingard started lovely but died off in the first half..Kane was just Kane which is great

I can't believe Ali was injured and kept on, not having that, surely they wouldn't so that would they?

So many Hendo knockers pre Game, at least they come in and say he played well...
To many club thoughts come into play when England play for me....

Sterling was biggest disappointment for me,, yes he scored 20+ goals but I'd have Rashford on all day over him, more of a threat

He played well last night i thought, Dier can do that job too though plus he can nestle into the back 4 when needed too so thats why some would pick him over hendo its a perfectly valid argument, as most have said its not really important they are much of a muchness im not sure why you liverpool fans get so precious about it. Where you boys been btw? its been quite peaceful in here laugh

As for Hendo and being a leader he proved in kiev without fail that he isnt one, i wouldnt necessarily call kane one either its probably what this team lacks the most.

What makes you think I'm being prescious ?

I'm simply saying he played well last night ..I also said tripper did , Kane did and sterling and Ali didn't

Because you said thats what he can do over dier when dier wasn't playing, think everyone has acknowledged hendo played well.

Tripper was probably the best player on the pitch yesterday, in games like that though he's always going to thrive where i worry with him is when we play better teams and he has to defend more thats where he can sometimes come up short.

Ali was excellent first half until he got a knock, he always seems to be made a scapegoat, i guess some just cant handle a him being young, confident and black. smile

Fun fact - Stuart Pearce has a better goals to game ratio for England than Sterling.

And Tony Adams. And even Emile Heskey.

Yup - I thought he was very good too.

Shame they can't do a touch by touch analysis of Sterling. They're far to soft.

It will be interesting to see what Southgate does in the next two. If he's reading this thread, he'd have eleventy-million variations of permutations from the given squad, every one of them the right and wrong team at the same time, depending on the viewer....

I suspect (injuries aside) you won't see any more than 2 changes in either game. I'd generally be trusting him to make the right call. It'll probably be more key what he does with substitutions, especially with the likes of Vardy on the bench who doesn't really fit into the chosen system unless Kane was unavailable.

Danny Rose at left back then and rashford given a start against Panama to freshen it up.
Maybe get a couple goals up if it goes well and rest a few more via subs.

Ali was dreadful for most of the game, but he looked injured!

Hendo was terrible but did not what he is able to do. He did what it is fair to ask of him.
