Why do England supporters have the name of the country written on their flag?
Other countries don't do this - do they?
You're mainly incorrect here. Usually it's the club they support or the town or city they're from. Why do England supporters have the name of the country written on their flag?

Well this is a bit of a first for a while.... going into the last match at group stage and arguing about what would be best result rather than what desperate position some results would leave us in, or desperate for other results to 'go our way' to get through.
We cant lose tonight, either way. Its almost like a friendly. it will be a massive disappointment to not have a competitive game. If both try not to be winners it could be dull.

Maybe because they believe that most people are only really aware of the Union Jack so need to spell out the country of the Saint George's Cross? Why do England supporters have the name of the country written on their flag?

I am probably doing too much thinking.

Belgium won't be fielding Hazard or Lukaku. Great opportunity for England to play attacking wing backs.
Is Hazard defo out? The Mad Monk said:

Apparently they do.Other countries don't do this - do they?
sort of, Welsh nationalism raising it's ugly head.
It's more common for supporters in England to bring an England flag with their local team name on it. I went to the First Test in Brisbane in 2010, 10,000 miles from my home in Bristol and ended up sitting in front of a load of St Georges Cross flags with various Bristol football team names on.

I don’t care who plays, but let’s just play to win. I (at 52) have not seen enough England wins at knockout stages, I deserve a bit of joy
Tonights game is still the group stage.Last 16 on Mon/ Tues will be the knockout stage.
In an ideal world we just win another 5 games.
Expect tonight's game to be a rather drab affair. Neither team will be 'that' bothered who they get in the knockout stages - there's little point in trying to 'manage' the outcome, at the end of the day you can lose to anybody.
It'll be all about self preservation in readiness for the last 16.

Optimistically I disagree, as those on the pitch (assuming some changes) will doubtless wish to impress. . . It'll be all about self preservation in readiness for the last 16.
I want to see us win every game, personally. I also am glad that some players will be rotated tonight because I think it's important that a number of other players get to taste playing in a World Cup before we find ourselves in a high pressure situation, bringing someone in and asking them to work a miracle in their first appearance.
I've been impressed with Southgate. I wasn't sure about him before Costa Rica to be honest, but I'm massively grateful we have him in charge and not Fat Sam. He's better off eating his burgers while watching in the pub
