2 goals and 2 assists for Messi tonight takes him to 36 goals and 21 assists in 36 games this season. 24 and 12 for Ronaldo in the same number. He's still different gravy.

In a team he's been in for his entire football career; do you think he'd have the same stats in a first season in a new team?

Probably, don't really give a st, don't think it is relevant to how good he is. Ronaldo spent a decade at Madrid and it's not like he ever produced a season better than Messi is putting in now and has done in the past. Also not like Messi has had the same team mates all that time either, he's playing with a lot of people who've been around 18 months or less this year.

There's a slight difference - he's at the same CLUB, but the TEAM and MANAGEMENT change quite regularly. Same for Ronaldo.
They are easily and by far the top two players of this generation, but anyone that thinks they'll never see their likes again just needs to cast their mind back to the last few generations of footballer.

You can hardly call out Messi for not changing club. Not many people are going to move on from Barcelona as it wouldn't be progress.

If Ronaldo was still at his prime I don't think he would have moved from Real either.

The only player capable of doing nothing for an entire game and still getting a hatrick. hehe

I personally think Messi is better than Ronaldo but it's very close and both are amazing.

I'm interested in who will replace them? I thought Neymar might but he has not really been incredible on a consistent basis. Mbappe has the opportunity but needs to continue to develop his game

Lets see if Messi is still doing it like that at 34 years old!

Thats why it's a great debate as Messi is a little younger but so far has a greater goal:games ratio. There is no real quantifable way to measure who is the best but both are incredible

When you consider Messi plays as a striker he should get more goals to be fair.

Ron for me.

Mbappe's interesting - already won the WC but now playing in an uncompetitive league; be good to see him in the PL, but can't see it happening.

Presumably La Liga next & a clutch of trophies @ RM or Barca.

I think Mbappe has outperformed both of them every year relative to his age. I don't think it's possible to end up better than Messi, but he's definitely a better 20 year old than Messi was.

Yep, 93 international goals now, and even at 34 you have to think he stands a chance of netting the 17 more he needs to top the list of all time international goal scorers.
