An interesting move indeed. I like Danny Wilson, he strikes me as a level-headed bloke where what you see is what you get.

Evans is, for now, an innocent man, I would hope that the media just let him get on and play football - they won't though, he's gonna need skin as thick as a rhino.

like any small thing such as an up and coming trial will disuade the ttterati from coming out in their horses baying for blood. FWIW I do think that the guy sounds like a miserable excuse for a man but if we applied that sort of bar there'd be a LOT of people out of work!!

I've got a feeling, and this is only based on the available information about the case, that this chap is going to be found 'not guilty' at his next trial. It doesn't strike me as the strongest prosecution given fresh evidence was able to quash the conviction.

It's unusual for a re-trial to be ordered if the convicted person has served their sentence.

Retrial in October, in Cardiff: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-

High quality journalism from the Daily Wail:

Headline: "rape victim will be forced to face him in court for a second time"

Text: "the alleged victim will appear in court to give evidence, but will be hidden behind a screen"
She can be hidden from the public gallery and reporters by a screen, but visible to Evans and the court people, can't she?
That would be my take on it.
Screens are designed to shield the victim from the accused.

I agree.... Why don't the likes of Troy Deney get slated? Is it because his crimes were different?

Probably because having a fight on a night out (Deeney) isn't viewed at the same level as domestic abuse or raping someone, none of it is really role model material though.

Don't know why anyone expects elite sportsmen to be role models for anything other than being sportsmen. Young, very fit blokes who need a lot of self belief and a highly competitive nature and who find themselves with more money than they know what to do with - and people expect their behaviour to be exemplary?

Unless I'm missing the point, Simpson strangled his wife?

This!!!

If your child has a footballer as a role model, you need to be a better parent.

My kids, when they were younger, admired footballers for their ability to play football. But I made them well aware that they were, on the whole, fking idiots. And often not very nice human beings.

Edited for accuracy and to highlight the crass stupidity of the original comment.

How many footballers do you know personally? I know a few and they're decent hard working (exceptionally well paid) people who love their kids and wives.

I think the only reason that the usual suspects are not out haranguing Chesterfield sponsor's and directors is there is more important things going on in the world at present. Many are too busy joining in with the current "vogue" of Orlando or the death of the Jo Cox at present. (both horrendous)

Ched Evans is scum, treating his partner with disdain and shagging around. She and her father should have dropped him like a stone, but that is their choice.

Is he a rapist? I think he will be found not guilty as something never added up with this from day one. So it is right he should resume a career, in my mind yes.

Will he be the last player to go off the rails, not a chance as history is littered with examples of sportsmen who are addicts of one thing or another, who treat women as play things. In that way they are no different to many ordinary men.

Considering who owns his team, a wise move.
