Both Lovren and Lallana were surely marquee signings. Possibly Laser also.
I also read that interview and thought it was a strange thing to say after at least 2 of our signings last summer.
I honestly don't think our defensive frailties are anything to do with our players. Play the Italian back 4 and we'd still leak goals. He just hasn't got what it takes to set up a team to defend properly and his backroom team are all very weak and lack experience. If he were to stay on I expect at least a defensive coach and possibly even a dof. I'm not sure why anyone would think there'd be an improvement without some changes.

Do you honestly believe this ?you would put them in the same class as Sanchez, Costa, Suarez etc. ?
We made no Marquee signings last year because we wouldn't pay the wages/ Do not have the pull anymore.
Liverpool are now a club on the up and we have to get used to the fact top 4 is a major achievement nowadays not a given.

Lovren and Lallana were "marquee" signings for US, I suspect RT means - as good as we could get for those positions. Rather than "bargains" like Lambert.
Yep marquee for us - bang £50m right there and say £180k a week between them - nearly enough to tempt so e mercenary hit man no doubt. I didn't hear any derision from fans with who we signed last year, with the exception of Lambert (and possibly Balotelli). Anyone claiming they had reservations about Lovren or Lallana are IMHO lying and just using hindsight to try and look smug. My recollection is that the concenus on them was extremely positive at the time.
On another note RT, for the third time of asking, can you please post a link about the Standard Chartered stories demanding changes. It all seems very strange in light of them recently signing a new deal with us after such a "failure" of a season.
Be nice to know what occurred and what changes were demanded and why they seem to have had a change of heart and extended their sponsorship of the club.
Thank you.

Excellent article. It may not make pleasant reading for some, but the facts (not opinion dressed up as fact) speak for themselves. 7lucky7 said:

You're really not new here are you? And your question was answered. Strange behaviour. I'm sure one of the mods will work it out.On another note RT, for the third time of asking, can you please post a link about the Standard Chartered stories demanding changes. As for both Lovren and Lallana. No one is lying about anything. The point really isn't whether they are bad players, rather is it what we needed to spend a huge chunk of our budget on. An understudy for Sakho and another understudy for Coutinho.

Absolute bks.Of course the players have something to do with it.
Sakho was horrific and before the New Year. Johnsona not even turned up. Lovren, when he played was poor.
The player absolutely played a part in leaking goals.
Everything that is wrong is BR's fault and anything good has nothing to do with him in your opinion - nonsensical.

And no one complained about them when we signed them - if anything else they said they would be excellent. So it wasn't just Rodgers who "got it wrong" with them. I also read that interview and thought it was a strange thing to say after at least 2 of our signings last summer.

The defense has certainly improved a bit when having 3 at the back. We got the best clean sheets number for a long time. It's just his style of football is that it is most important to get goals, and if we let any in then so be it. The problem is when you lose your two main strikers you're in big trouble as you have problems getting goals but the same weaker defense.

Moreno Sakho Skrtel Johnson (any replacement)
I think that regardless of who we bring in to our back 4, if the coaching remains the same so will the outcome.
Also, once we played Lucas in front of the back 4 we got much better. As we did by dropping in an extra defender and playing a back 3.
The way we leak goals has been an issue now for 3 seasons with multiple defensive line ups. I'm not sure where else you think the responsibility lies.
