The question remains, LVG out, who's in?
Jose or Giggs seem the likely choices. Neither very appealing.
I love Giggsy, but I see him as ssistnt/head coach not asthe manager.Jose or Giggs seem the likely choices. Neither very appealing.
Would love Jose.
No ECL will impact revenues badly and reduce the attractiveness to potential signings.
Only Jose could invigorate the squad and be a catalyst for major change. Even if only for two years.
I cannot see anyone else having an instant positive response. United no longer have the luxury of time.
Youth is great. So is squad development. But former players like Sparky may not cut it. The club would give them at least a season and the risk would be deterioration.
I'm not so sure of that. Jose is damaged goods, I think he's largely shown himself to be in decline for a number of years now, from his highs with Porto and Chelsea. He wasn't too well received at Real and despite winning the Premiership last year (in a poor season) he completely flopped the next season.
Even with your revenues you'll be competing against Pep at City, Ancelotti at Bayern, possibly Simeone at Chelsea, Barca and Real. I think your best chances are taking players that are just getting past their prime (Ronaldo in a year or two), or the best of the up and coming talents (Depay, Martial) before they really prove themselves (Neymar) and want to go to Real or Barca.

I tend to agree with that view - we haven't really ever been about buying players at the peak of their abilities, its usually been when they are younger and still developing potential. It's not always worked out for the best when we have gone the mega bucks route, only Rio really and arguably RVN.
That's the way we will need to continue - Manchester can't really compete with the glamour of Madrid / Barcelona and, even if it could, if it comes down to pure money then I'd wager city's pockets ultimately could be deeper than ours.
Problem is a) Ed seems to want to go for big names (they sell more shirts, I guess) and b) it really needs a good scouting and academy structure and by all accounts ours has been ignored and is somewhat behind that of other clubs we compete with.
We very badly need a director of football with a strong strategic vision of what our club needs to be structurally to keep any hope of long term competetiveness. Commercially we are sound (for now), but drifting badly in terms of actual football matters.

heard it, but then also heard one about Pulis, so I really can't take any of them seriously (else I would need to go and have a little cry).
I agree. The amount of rubbish on media outlets I will never really believe things till they are confirmed by the club. We get linked with 100's of players every year, we are always trying to sign Neymar, Bale, Messi etc....most of these are made up by Agents, Players, Journo's. How many times do we see United linked with a player then all of a sudden they sign a new deal?? It's just rubbish. jammy_basturd said:
Any of you lot heard the rumour that you could be getting Poch from Spurs in the summer?
Hello, jammy a while back a few were posting about goopi (Kodi) boxes and I duly bought one, but it's turned to poo recently with Phoenix losing all the games, even through Valhalla there's no PL matches. Any ideas?Keep Pep, we've got Louis!
We all thought LvG was the problem but Giggs stays clear & we play like Brazil in the 70s!
We love you Louis, we do, oh Louis we love you...
Just shows what can happen with a bit of commitment to an attack, eh?
I reckon Mata's a dead cert for drugs-testing. His performance is a million times better than normal even despite missing a few chances to work their keeper.
