Yes, no, maybe. I'd suggest that there have been 5 years of either under investment or poor buys. Ozil & Sanchez seemed to be signings purely to placate the fans. The general quality of the squad has at best stagnated compared to immediate rivals over the same period. Which players would the clubs above you covet? Sanchez obviously. Ozil perhaps. Maybe Bellerin/Kos. But the rest? None of them would get a kick at Chelsea, Spurs or City. I certianly think that your current squad is not playing to it's ability but also that just changing manager is not going to see a marked improvment in fortunes.
perhaps, perhaps not.... not but i'm of the opinion (and i have been consistent on here for over three years with it) tell me a top 10 EPL manager that would do worse than AW with that lot?

depends how you quantify 'marked improvement'....
It depends when they took over. Anyone taking charge after the transfer window shut will still have inherited a squad inferior to Chelsea, Spurs and City. So 4th would still be the realistic expectation. However, you'd expect that the performances, cohesion and tactics would improve and with them, less ignominious defeats. You'd also go into next season with some level of optimism!

You'd have to be a basket case to sign for arsenal this summer if you are a player.

You'd have to assume that their only motovation is money. Which might lead to predictable results on the pitch.

Some might say it already has...

No matter what I as a spurs fan think of Arsenal, they still are a great club but on sunday their two best paid players were an utter disgrace to the shirt, actually scrap last sunday they have been a disgrace all season.

I think that's a bit unfair on Sanchez. He's put a shift in most of the season until he realised it was a lost cause. Boggle seems to have been going through the motions all season.

You can't single out those two...especially Sanchez. Since Xmas I struggle to think of a player who you'd really say has played well or as well as we've seen them play in previous seasons. Ox has had some good games and after that I am really struggling, some players have had the odd decent game like Cech did on Sunday and Gabriel against Man City... Holding has looked good whenever picked. our best player this year was Cazorla before he got injured.

Generally it's been a shambles which points to an issue with the team rather than individual players....it's a team sport after all. What's really concerning is how some players have failed to really push on in the last few years. Walcott, Ramsey, Gibbs, Jenkinson, Giroud, Chambers, Scezzer, Wilshere (injuries obv a massive issue in his case).

I cant agree, he's been acting like a petulant little child, his behaviour in the dressing room also apparently leaves a lot to be desired. Meanwhile arsenal are still paying him his exorbitant wages and even offering more, he's shown zero respect to the manager, his teammates or the fans.

I said that some time back about his petulance, don't think he's quite as good as he thinks, just shines in a poor Arsenal team.

Our team needs at least 5 or 6 new players. We should off load Ozil, Walcott, Bellerin, Gabriel, Giroud, Mustafi, Xhaka, Mertesacker, and Wenger. If this don't happen we just stay in the 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th zone. We might as well be in 7th place rather than 4th as we're never gonna win the Champions League, at least we avoid the humiliation of the February exit like we normally do.
i dont agree with that. the team / players are punching well below their weight.

sure dump ligue 2 giroud, bfg and 'oh no i gave the ball away i better smile ... but my hair looks good' ramsey but the rest can work with a better more aggressive tactically astute manager. 75pc of football is physiology not necessarily skill set. i agree we need to strengthen but to blame the players here is completely missing the point.
We are short of top class footballers, you can get away with 3 or 4 average players if the rest are top class, currently other than Sanchez on a good day and he's not sulking we have none.
If Wenger and the Arsenal board are happy with the status quo they should drop the price of season tickets etc accordingly with the standard of football that's been played the last few years.

I think this is a massive point. Couldn't agree more. Charge some of the highest prices around IF you have aspirations of competing at the top.
Sadly they clearly don't.

I'd be petulant too if I had to play in that team!

The manager is an idiot
The players are rubbish
And as for the fans.....

I read yesterday that Arsenal's central midfielders have scored ONE goal all season in the PL...that was the goal Xhaka scored relatively early on in the season I believe. That's incredible if true!

Depends on who you class as a CM I guess.

I don't think Wanyama or Dembele have scored many.
Kante and Matic similar.

Those DM's aren't there to score lots. That's why you have Alli, Eriksen, Hazard, Willian, Sanchez etc.

probably because his manager and teammates do not share his aspirations.... 1 is a winner the other journeymen. and i agree completely with his behavior. his teammates are an utter disgrace with no commitment mental or physical.

a player of caliber has the right to tick off his subordinates that arnt pulling their weight (even tho that is acceptable to the manager)... talk about frustrating!

I would go nuts at them too.... frankly we need more like him not like the 'run off to daddy and cry' ramsey's of this world.

He's not ticking them off though, he's throwing tantrums a two year old would be proud of and has completely downed tools. There's a thing called professionalism, he has none whatsoever.

He hasn't even moved from his current club FFS. Very close but not close enough because why, exactly? We'd signed Sanago? Giroud? Delbert Wilkins?
