Holding-Monreal-Kolasinac.

Yes, woeful defending but I think we're being harsh on what was a makeshift back line.

Glad, and relieved, to have got the win. I would prefer to see AOC and Kolasinac as our wing nuts.

Yup me too. I think Hector is half the player he was, he was lost for pace and consistently went inside instead of to the by-line for a cross. (Leicester were playing thin - so he cuts inside every time????)

Kola is a beast - AOC on the other wing offers more drive and direction with the possibility of a shot too.

Apparently mertesacker and Chambers were both fit and available for last night....not really sre what that says about BFG but it's surely curtains for Chambers Arsenal career.

Talk of AOC in talks with Chelsea over a move (around 35 mill) because he doesn't see himself as a (left) wing nut and would rather play in the middle... Has he really played that well (recently) for a club he wants to remain at, or has he been advertising himself with his performances recently?

Not sure what the truth is, but I would be playing him instead of Bellerin for sure. But if he wants a central role, he has to be played there to prove his worth, and therein lies the problem.

If he goes Wenger should go at the same time, AOC is one of our best players in a mediocre team.
Wenger goes on about the crazy prices in the transfer market, he'd be better using his breath to tell the board to start joining in in the crazy priced transfer market rather than being a load of skinflints because until they do we will always be also rans and still charging the most in Europe to get in a football ground. If Wenger thinks every decent player is overpriced he should get out of top class football management because that's the way it is.
We are one game in and Wenger is already beginning to annoy me.

He reportedly want to play centrally....I just don't see him getting game time there for Chelsea. He's just not good enough on the ball...especially in tight situations.

He was superb for Arsenal in the second half against Sevilla....miles better than Bellerin was in the first half( shocking form). Offers more threat going forward but an (in form) Bellerin is the better player all round I think.

This
We've had 'his' alternative thinking and to a large extent we're going backwards now.
Can we have someone who wants to move with the times ? He was revolutionary 20 years ago but that was ....
Oh well, Groundhog Day aside the Shrews have 2/2 so that's where my money is going - support your local club and get back to some real football. Good luck with that as they say.

  • Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger insists he is ready to make a "financial sacrifice" to keep Alexis Sanchez.
  • Arsene Wenger has also vowed not to sell Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to Chelsea.
  • Arsenal defender Gabriel is poised to join Spain's Valencia in a £10m move.
_______

- Sanchez: either way, get it done.

- AOC: Get it done.

- Gabriel: get it done. When we switched to a back three Wenger was waxing lyrical about how a role in the new system suited Gabriel (and TBF, he played well).

This apparent heel-dragging indecisive ambiguity is so frustrating.

That's good and bad IMHO...and not sure that is 100% accurate as if Ramsey's contract was expiring next summer that would be all over the press.

Of the 2018 list the obvious issues are the one's we know about. BFG, Gibbs and Jenks it's a good thing. Jenkinson is reportedly being offered £25k a week by Palace and is currently on a ludicrous £48k a week (much as I love the fact he's a fan it's a huge amount for a player of his ability).

Debuchy, Monreal, Cech and maybe Giroud are all probably past there sell by date in 2019. Ospina can be upgraded, Walcott is probably in the same class.

So I'd say Ozil, Sanches and Ox are big problems (but we knew that) and Ramsey and possibly Welbeck need sorting. The rest I don't have a problem with and wish they expired this year in a few cases!

So it's looking likely that Sanchez will go in this transfer window, AOC still up in the air, bearing in mind we were mediocre last year, losing these two players will only make the team worse whilst other teams have been spending big time. Fortunately I'm only a armchair fan and the whole thing going on at Arsenal annoys me.
