That's the worst decision all season. Stone wall pen.

Actually, the right decision. If the attacker stays down, it's a pen. No doubt. But he gets straight up and takes the shot, so the ref rightly plays advantage. Now if the shot had gone hopelessly wide, the ref could still give a pen, as clearly the foul put him off and no advantage accrued. But the shot was pretty good, on target, and Cech tips it onto the post. It then comes out to another attacker, who has a great chance, but puts it wide. That's the 2nd phase of play. Far too much has gone on for the ref to say no advantage accrued and give the pen.

Well come on then, how would you have reffed it. If you give the pen, and Rodreguiz shot goes in, you look a right fool and everybody is screaming at you for not playing advantage. As he jumps up immediately, the ref is duty bound to play advantage. That's the directive.

I'd have blown the whistle obviously as it's as blatant pen as you'll see.

The referee didn't play advantage as you could clearly see him shout 'NO' on the replay and at no point did he make the advantage signal with his arms

An awful decision that would have been given as a penalty at the other end

And if Rodregiuz shot goes in, your the worst ref ever! Especially if they miss the pen. What everyone is overlooking is that West Brom ended up with a far better chance than a pen, a tap in to an empty net from 6 yards.....and the idiot put it wide!

Its not about being the best ref or the worst ref its about getting the decision correct, it was a pen all day long and the excuse that he played the advantage is wrong as he didn't indicate that with arms outstretched.

The ref got it wrong plain and simple.

If the ref didn't see the pen (a player ran across his sight line)) then he can't give it unless asst ref indicates a pen. If West Brom want to blame anyone, then blame Rodriguez for jumping to his feet and blame the idiot who put the rebound wide.

The worst decision of the night wasn't the pen, it was not having the guts to give Nyom a 2nd yellow after the Arsenal pen for sarcastically clapping the ref. That's a mandatory yellow. Madley let him off as he'd just booked him for the foul that led to the pen, but he had no leeway to let him off. He could be in trouble with the refs' panel over that.

I have no idea. If he didn't see it because a player crossed his path, then that's unfortunate by not in itself bad refereeing. It's just bad luck. If he did see it, the right thing to do as the player jumps up is to play advantage.

It's bad luck for the ref that it hits the post. If keeper saves it or it goes wide, if he's seen the pen, he can call play back and give the pen. If the shot goes in, it's genius referring and everyone is praising him. But the moment it hits the post and comes out to the idiot, the ref is sunk. He has to let play go on, because it's almost certain they are going to score. But when the fool misses, the ref can't then give the pen even if he has seen it, and we've moved into a 2nd phase of play.

Whether he saw it or not, the end result was that West Brom were rewarded with a chance even easier than a penalty. Which they missed!!!
