To be fair, when you set up like this on a free kick its hard to blame the manager entirely...but he is the one keeping them at the club, motivating and organising them.

He even went over to the kicker and whispered where to put it. I watched him twitching to get to the near post in front of the keeper and I was sat in my living room.

There was nobody in that team telling anyone to stick to him.

Get real.

Buck tops with the coach/manager, even more so when that coach/manager/control freak (delete as appropriate) gets paid massively more than his piss poor results of the last 10 years deserve.

Being brutally honest they're probably at the best they've been for over 50 years at the moment and as their owner is one of the richest men in the country seems like it should bode well when they move into their new stadium but as we know at Arsenal having a rich owner doesn't always mean they're going to support the club by investing big to make sure Arsenal compete at the top level. Since we moved into the new stadium rather than us poaching players from big clubs it's been the other way round.
Which brings me on to last night, it's January the transfer window is open we've just watched another load of calamity defending by Arsenal so why isn't Wenger putting offers in for good defenders? Liverpool think they have a problem they buy van Dijk, why can't Wenger do something similar? We know why, Kroenke is only interested in making loads of money and Wenger is st scared of losing his £8.5 million salary if he kicked a stink up about not having the money to buy top defenders.

Stick to him? You've got 5 defenders playing offside on the 6 yard box, no doubt as per training, whilst 2 are playing everyone onside a couple of yards from the touchline! Picking up the runner was the least of the problems rofl

Only seeing the highlights tonight the scorer ran from the far side of the six-yard box ... whereas the still pic here makes it looks like he was stood still three yards from the line with no-one on him!

Someone should still have put in a challenge though ...

Love the opening line of the match report in the Independent "If this was not the worst defence of the FA Cup in the modern era, it was in the top one."

Maybe he should sell every single one of them from last night then & only have "superstars" at the club & let them play every single game!
Get real man, you have to have a squad capable of winning games & last night the better team won yet the 11 out there for Arsenal were more than capable of grinding out a result so the players should take a look at themselves & take the flack.

The other thing, not one Arsenal fan wrote on here once the team was announced expressing their concerns. Had it go in Arsenals favor, Wenger would be called a genius.

Go back a few years and read all the posts on this thread......and you'll see exactly why no one on here would bother to make a post on the team announcement laugh

I don't think anyone on this thread for the past 5 years would dare call Wenger a genius.......other than in his ability to continually command a salary not commensurate with results.

Aah.........a Forest fan then.

Given you lot don't even have a manager, it was a great result for you, even if our mediocrity did make it easier for you.

Was surprised when the BBC commentator said that you lot have been through 20 managers in the 25 odd years since Brian Clough left!
Warburton didn't last long, funny how he did so well at Brentford, yet hasn't been able to repeat that managerial form anywhere since then?

I had the same conversation yesterday about these managers who seem to do well with "smaller" clubs but as soon as they get the opportunity to manage a club with a much higher budget, they crumble & don't know how to cope.

I don't think many people were all that upset at the initial team selection, it had some bright young lads and some experience. The issue was the fact that he had no insurance on the bench if things weren't going to plan, Ozil, Sanchez, Wilshere or Lacazette could have been game changers if they were there and ready to go if needed.

It was pure arrogance to think that the team just wouldn't run into any issues because it's 'only' the third round and they were 'only' facing Nottingham Forest.

I agree & this was my comments earlier about top teams not giving Championship clubs or lower the respect they should.

I've got no problem with that, if, and only if, its a result of a decision based on sacrificial circumstances as a result of upcoming matches/logistics/squad problems.
Frankly that needs to be upfront though, otherwise it looks like a post defeat excuse from page 35 of the football managers book of excuses, but, I can see, that with a semi-final this week of one cup comp, right after a hard xmas/new year fixtures list, and with a fight for a decent league finish and the Europa Cup knockout rounds to come......a decision to accept sacrifice of one tournament, should that happen be a decision that is accepted and thus determine the squad selection for that match.

The trouble with that notion is, Wenger's known arrogance, makes one think that it was never that logical a decision rolleyeslaugh

Wenger's put teams like that out before with similarly weak benches in domestic cup competitions but generally has got away with it. That line from The Independent is brilliant.

The problem with this squad is what we all know and clearly Wenger does because he doesn't rotate.....we have a decentish team that can compete for fourth place but we have a huge fking gap between first team regulars and the Plan B. Also what was very, very obvious was that they targetted BFG....he's absolutely toast. When you get targetted as a defender and you're at the end of your career that's it....shame he didn't go out on the FA Cup Final win.

Debuchy
Coquelin
Elneney
Iwobi (he's massively lost his way)
Walcott (maybe off anyway)
Welbeck
Ospina
Chambers
Holding
BFG

None of them put any pressure on the incumbents int he first team.

They should all still be better than a championship side.

It doesn't matter anyway, City will win it so why waste time. 2nd to 6th in the league is going to be very competitive.

Still a st result though
