I am shocked Aubameyang wants to come to you in the current state you're at - no top 4 this year and with everyone above you strengthening again in the summer its going to be a hell of a job getting back in unless you spend massive.
Such a top talent used to playing in the champs league moving to a club who's level now looks to be Europa redface

Ozil resigns which is good news which means amazing potential with Ozil, Micky-taker, Alex and PEA up front. It's just a shame that what is behind them wouldn't survive in the first division let alone the Championship.
Champions league attack, league 1 defence!

wash your mouth out about 'Alex' though. Championship at best.
Chamberlain? hehe
Iwobi, I assumed. Ox is west ham level
Alex Lacazette I imagine...

farewell le lampost, never looked like getting 20 goals a season. stick him up top ina 2 man attack and would be effective. can't see him being at chelsea next season though.

If we come out of this with Mkhitaryan, Aubameyang and the chance of getting Ozil to re sign then I'd happily settle for that.
Looks like my wishes came true for a change, bar Giroud going to the blue scum, which grates me an immense amount. mad players that want to stay with a club are few and far between these days. Still can't fathom the thinking between selling him rather than Welbeck.

It's also £20mil for an 18 month contract (with a one year extension)....weird transfer as it doesn't look great financially for either club. Arsenal haven't got a good price for him and Chelsea are potentially paying £20mil for a player who will be a free agent in 18 months.

Having said all that I think the one thing you can take from this transfer window is that the club are finally taking a longer term view....they've only got Lacazette and Welbeck as options up front in the Europa League but it seems they're planning long term. They've got rid of a huge amount of players in the last year.

Debuchy
Coquelin
Walcott
Giroud
Alexis (not got rid of...definitely left at his choice)
Oxlade-Chamberlain
Gibbs
Scezzer
Jenkinson
Campbell
Gabriel
Sanogo

Of that lot the only one I really think we should have kept is Scezzer....and you can definitely say some of those players can still do a job but IF the club is genuinely re-building and has ambitions of being a genuine contender I don't think any of them are good enough.

I reckon Wenger is definitely gone in the summer. The new Director of Football from Barcelona starts his job today.

I think a number of them, were, or could have been made good enough by a better coach/manager.........

yes

Not to mention the huge amount of wages cleared on that lot (Arsenal typically paying £80k/£90k per week on numerous average players) which can now be reallocated to better players as evidenced by Ozil's new deal.

Completely agree about Scezzer too. Would also say Giroud leaving was a shame, but it was a necessary sacrifice in order to get the Aubameyeng deal done, and Wenger has shown no enthusiasm to a play 2 up top system that would probably have suited him alongside a speedy forward/poacher.

The rest of them were over-stayed/overpaid deadwood that needed clearing if the club were going to move forward. It shows a refreshing ruthlessness completely at odds with the way the club have operated for the last 20 years.

Hopefully you are correct about all the signs pointing to a change at the top in the summer.

Edit: also agree with Aero that a couple of them could have become much better players under a different coach- and also think that all of this will be for nothing if Wenger stays on next season as the team's issues go much deeper than just personnel (see the defensive problems!). But that hardly needed stating again hehe

Good point.

I wonder whether either of those realistically have much of a future at the club?

Top six is the new top four.

Wenger will no doubt have in his mind that winning the EL will get us a squeeze into the CL. Yeah, because when you can't take care of Bournemouth, Burnley, Swansea, West Brom et al, you should focus on more achievable results from teams like AC Milan. Athletico, Dortmund and Napoli.

The future's bright...

To be honest, it’s looking more and more like top five is the new top four with each week that passes.

What I cannot get my head around is that by virtue of all the interest in Evans Wenger clearly identified (or agreed) that we need strengthening in defence. Whatever happened before the TW opened, and certainly during, all we got to hear about was a 'last ditch attempt' which was rebuffed by the Baggies. The end.

Did they say, "oh well, keep on attacking and playing sideways" on the basis that they'd shot their load over securing the services of another attacker?

January transfers are always tricky purchases, but if you've lost a player or the one(s) you have aren't doing the business, but FFS, it's the Wenger way to ignore what we need and go for what we don't. As soon as we sign Aubameyang, Ozil penned a new (big money) deal.

i havent been in side the bowl in 5 years i just cant see the point. Got a ST but sell it.

Not watched a game on TV or stream in a year, i dont even think ive watched us on MOTD once this season either. ive seen goal clips on SSN occasionally.

however i get plenty of feedback from the chaps who do still drum up the enthusiasm to go on my and the other ticket we have, some of whom were akbs up until last season bafflingly enough.
