Obvious points;

When it was spent is not irrelevant if you are trying to argue that it puts us in the same position Arsenal found themselves in.

Of the 340m, £240m was financed from within the club in previous years and has been accounted for. Some would argue that that's why Spurs didn't spend big in the last 10 years. Effectively we already taken a large part of the overall 'hit' for the stadium in years gone by. We turned a profit last year of over £50m - it was over £117m before exceptional items, player trading and depreciation according to the published accounts.

The £400m is a facility, of which only £100m has been drawn down. I have an overdraft facility but I don't use it all - or that often. More will have been used by now but we are also nearing completion.

Regardless, it's still not £1Bn.

It still won't impact anywhere near as much as Arsenal's stadium build did.

Before the TV deals that have catapulted us all into a financial wonderland we would have to have sold Gareth Bale 6 times over to help fund the stadium, today we are trebling salaries instead. We have also just built a state-of-the-art training centre for £30m.

NFL, increased match day income and other event usage must be factored in as must Stadium sponsorship. You can't compare the £350m Arsenal spent with the £800m Spurs spent and the relative impacts on the 2 clubs. We are in a whole new world now. £800m gets you 4 Neymars.

Levy has this covered.
Back when Arsenal moved to the Emirates, the cost of their stadium would have bought you 4 Ronaldos.

It's all relative.

The irony of your post is a bit lost on you.
Sorry but it's your own internal logic thats failing.

You stated £1Bn with just a DM report to go on and that only quotes "sources".

There is no cost analysis available which ought to tell you that the DM is guessing.

I don't need to furnish proof I made no claims about this - You did so please find one and show me £1Bn in costs and then justify your argument that Spurs will suffer like Arsenal did.

I'll wait.
You called me out on a statement I made, I think you should show me why you're convinced it's inaccurate? With no figures available, I'm using what's available to me. I'll say it again because I'm not convinced you've read my previous posts properly - There are widespread reports of the costs, not just the DM. The club have admitted £800M in costs back in March and knowing construction projects of this size and their penchant for going over budget, especially in the final stages when deadlines are looming I think £1Bn is likely to be pretty accurate, even without the news reports adding weight to the idea.

I never said Spurs would suffer like Arsenal, I made no comparison to Arsenal at all, you definitely haven't read my posts properly have you? Or are you just making things up? I said you would suffer from a period of austerity while you pay off the debt...that was all. I'm sure that you will. I doubt very much it'll be anywhere as severe as the one Arsenal faced, but it'll be there nonetheless.

This banging one's head against the wall is tiresome.

Oh...and you're still swerving the debt statement btw.

So a big fat "No, I've got no proof of anything" then.

Just some mindless click bait originated by the Mail and respawned by other blogs saying Spurs stadium is costing a billion and your own assumption that we will suffer a "period of austerity".

Yeah, it's going round in circles now. We'll have to wait and see.

Oh dear, I never claimed to have proof, I made a statement based on the evidence available and you were convinced that I was wrong. You've not given me any evidence to the contrary, so we're at a stale mate. Resorting to misquoting me for comic affect speaks volumes, so I'm out.

Be surprised unless we have yet another goalie lined up, can’t see Ospina staying, not that he excelled at the WC, spent most of his time rolling around on the floor like a big fanny.

Courtois has pretty much said that if Hazard leaves Chelsea he’s going too, so I suppose stranger things have happened.

Speaking of keepers... just seen two reports; one of Liverpool bidding £66.8m for Allison from Roma and the other claiming Real Madrid have *allegedly* reached an agreement to buy Courtois for £31m.

Can't see Chelsea wanting Cech back tbh. Bit of a busted flush these days.

Impressive how Liverpool are doing business. Keita and Allison are two big upgrades in the spine of their team. Massive money for a keeper !

Courtois is in the last year of his contract so that would explain the mere £31mil.

Yup, he was just finding some consistent form. Hope he can return as good as he was last season.

Only Liverpool could pay 68m for a keeper they put 7 goals past in 1 week last season ;-)

Yeah. One of the few Arsenal players who grew tired of the Wenger regime and wanted a bit more. Always respected him for that. Seemed to be playing well for Liverpool too.

Didn't we sign a goalkeeper? Don't know much about him, so is he not first team material?

Bernd Leno.

In terms of backup, Martinez looks a decent prospect but I think Matt Macey might leap ahead of him.

I suspect this will be his final make or break season with the team.
