Yep, and I think it's important to note that is a pre-sales figure. You never know, if we actually managed to sell some players for even semi-decent amounts then we might have about £150m to spend. That might not get us world class players, but it should get us solid ones and we might uncover some gems in the process.

Ah, there's that hope building up again, just so it can be crushed towards the end of the summer window. Oh to be a football fan.
Buying ready made players can be risky.
Saw this the other day on Twitter....players that made up Liverpool's side that beat Barca. Hugely impressive recruitment.....

fk me there are so many players outside the "Top 6" that would improve Arsenal.

AS Roma (🇮🇹)
Own youth
Schalke 04 (🇩🇪)
Southampton
Hull City
Sunderland
AS Monaco (🇫🇷)
Manchester City
Stoke City
Lille (🇫🇷)
Southampton

8 from clubs ranked outside the @EuroClubIndex top-50.

Spurs have been linked with Rabiot since he was 4 years old it seems.

Sounds a real drama queen, should fit in well at Arsenal. biggrin
happy to pick up a few scraps from this shakeout.

I am not alone in thinking that the Barca/Madrid money printer is about to run out of paper.

Haven't you already got a loanee from Barca ?

Looks like there will be some decent players up for grabs but i bet they will all come with huge ego's too.

I'd still rather buy young British talent tbh.

hah yes mate i want Arsenal to sign Troy Deeney and a few other choice British/Irish players.

but on balance....this opportunity with the spanish clubs has been in the making for 10 years. Athletico - 500m euros in debt, Barca, having to open credit lines to pay their wage bill. Madrid with their current wage structure, slim squad and big debts to other clubs....

Happy to let PSG, City and Man United to pick over the flesh and we will get a couple of choice options.

D.Suarez was a Barca squad player like Bojan, a
gamble at best. I would have signed him but it hasn’t worked out and I am glad he is back off our wage bill.

I would too, but anyone recognised is often too expensive.

I just wonder why we, or any of the other top clubs for that matter, can't make our academy more productive. Ajax (I think?), Southampton and Monaco, to name three, all produce amazing talent from their youth training. Why is it so hard for bigger clubs to do it?

I'd like to see Smith-Rowe, Nelson, Willock, AMN and Nketiah to get a lot more time in the senior team. I guess management think they aren't ready, but is Willock (for example) going to be a worse midfielder than El Neny for gods sake?!

I'll hold my hands up and say I don't know nearly as much about the youth we have as I maybe should, but I look at some of the poor performances of senior players and wonder if we really don't have anyone we could try instead. If indeed we don't, why don't we?!

Most signings (not all) that Mislintat had a hand in turned out well. I think we're really going to miss him this summer.

No thanks, Deeney is a Sunday league thug. He’s not fit to wear an Arsenal shirt. No doubt we could do with a few players with some of his attributes but that’s as far as it goes for me.

I still can't get over his 'you have to whack an Arsenal player' comment. I can understand that our team has been a bit soft in recent years but Torreira is half the size of him.

Thug is best word for him.

A couple there I didn't realise were, technically, Invincibles.

Harsh.....but true.

I also agree we should be looking at our academy, and if there's few options there to bring forward, then questions should be being asked of that academy.

Would it be fair to say that these clubs give their youngsters far more opportunity to break into the first team and shine?

Because there is less expectation and therefore pressure on the manager for success. They can afford to drop points while they blood the youngsters. Or as in the case of Ajax, they are the dominant club in a weak league.

None of the top 6 are going to accept playing EL for 3 years whilst they develop half a dozen youth players. Even from a manager's point of view, why improve players for the next manager to enjoy, who will take your job after you've failed to secure CL?

If you look through our team history it is littered with players from our academy who were given a chance and were not good enough.

Whilst we may not have a good record of producing top class players through the academy, there are plenty of chances given out.

Not entirely true: Arsenal have one of the best Academy systems in the country (esp. based on results for U23 teams and below, plus international caps).

Andy Cole
Ashley Cole
David Rocastle
Michael Thomas
Ray Parlour
Serge Gnabry
...

Can’t use the past tense when the future is yet to happen.
Previous poster makes a call stating that the Academy doesn’t have a healthy record. The facts disprove that.

Not saying the system is broken, a system can still be healthy and not produce superstars. Alas, we are in a lean patch and we need to bring in players.

It is a good job i am middle aged and can remember those greats on the list.

Frimpong another who showed lots of promise early on,a bit of a unit and attitude to match ! The kind of bite we’re sorely missing these days, but needed taming down a bit !
Sent on loan to Wolves, injured then disappeared into obscurity.

The was some uproar about the little or non exisiting academy players getting through to the first team squad about 12 years ago.

Liam Brady the then head of youth development said to a group of parents along the lines of - We don't promise your son will make it as a professional player at Arsenal, we give them a football education and if they don't make it here they could make it somewhere else. As an example, look at Sid Sidwell (2000 & 2001 FA Youth cup winner) he has just moved from Reading to Chelsea and is on £50k a week!

Lots of other players have come through the academy, some have made it at Arsenal and some have made it somewhere else.....
1980's - Paul Davis, Tony Adams, Martin Keown, Paul Merson, Martin Hayes, Niall Quinn, Kevin Campbell, Stephen Morrow
1990's - Ian Selley, James Harper
2000's - David Bentley, Kieran Gibbs, Jack Wilshire, Wojciech Szczęsny, Seb Larsson, Anthony Stokes, Benik Afobe, James Shea
2010's - Emile Smith-Rowe, Joe Wilock, Reiss Nelson, Anisley Maitland-Niles, Alex Iwobi
