Arteta confirmed. I reckon it'll be a disaster.
I don’t...I think there’s a decent chance that he’ll do well. There’s plenty of evidence from players that have worked with him (Sterling for example ) and said he’s done a huge amount of work with them to improve them....those articles came out months ago so aren’t something that’s come out this week from someone looking to write a story around his move. Guardiola clearly has a ferocious work appetite and every thing I have read about Arteta suggests the same....and it’s hard to think Guardiola would have have any other type of person working alongside him. He’s known to demand a lot of players which is exactly what’s needed.

There’s no magic bullet though....we’re done in the PL this year and I reckon it could a month or two before we see anything meaningful.

I am glad we got Arteta and not Ancelotti.

Just had a look on arsenal fan TV. They are very pragmatic about it. Similar to when we appointed Silva.

From an Everton point of view I hope it works out for him.

Seems like city had the money all along laugh

I hope it works for you. It’s great to see the bigger teams taking chances on former players, rather than going down the route of a foreign manager with a glowing CV, but not much recent success.

I’m not sure they’ve all got it right though so only time will tell. He’s certainly got a good CV in his apprenticeship at City.

Then again, for every real supporter who CBA anymore, there are a thousand tourists ready to jump into his seat and spend the game taking selfies.
If that were true you’d have a packed stadium.

Even the tourists are too embarrassed to take selfies at Arsenal at the moment.

Glad I'm not the only one. And he has looked and sounded very impressive in his interviews and press conferences today.

And let's get real - if Arsenal had wanted Ancelloti then they would have gotten him. He hasn't chosen Everton instead of Arsenal - Arsenal just weren't interested.

It's a risk and will take time, but he inspires confidence with his manner and I look forward to his first match. Hopefully the atmosphere at the ground will be positive. And maybe some movement in the squad next month in the transfer window.

Yep, agree with both these posts. Was disappointing to not see more of a positive reaction with the freddie change, but hoping Arteta can bring a freshness and some new ideas and motivation.

Don't buy that.

I think they had a list of many names, and the only one that still wanted the job on the terms that the club were offering (i.e. work with what we've got) was Arteta. Any big name manager in the frame was likely demanding a budget they weren't going to get, and lost interest.

Arteta isn’t the appointment I had hoped for. Saying that, we’re mid table with 3-4 decent players in our squad. I think whoever comes in really has their work cut out

IMO we need a proven manager, not somebody who has never managed and who only retired in the last five years. With Freddie, Bould and Mertersacker on the bench we are still absolutely awful. I’m not sure why the board think Arteta will be any better

Our squad is very average, there’s a lot of dead wood like Xhaka, Ozil, Mustafi. Not a fan of Luiz, if he wasn’t past it Chelsea would have kept him. Only we give our best players to our rivals

The best we can hope for is that Arteta somehow manages to win the Europa league as we aren’t Top Four material. He’ll need time, longer than Emery but will he get it?

That's just guess work, no offense. Arsenal are a big deal on a global scale, even if it's hard to see it with the current form (or whatever you want to call it). If they wanted Ancelloti, they would have got him.

There is plenty said - and written - about Arteta and his character. It's enough to feel hopeful about. Just like when Dick was appointed, I kept my fingers crossed and that's all I (we) can do with Mikel.

Get behind him and the team.

Here we go again...

ETA: MA's interview is interesting. Fingers firmly crossed for him and the team.

If I was Arteta;

- stop playing out from the back
- send Ozil out on loan January
- spend any transfer budget on solid proven defenders, no other positions
- Get the crowd behind the team
- do not play Luiz, Mustafi, Sokratis (?) ever again

Some serious issues with team selection today - who on earth do we play at full back, assuming bellerin is out as well. We may have no left backs or right backs! Everton look fired up - with AMN at right back and someone filling in at left back (Saka, Chambers, Xhaka? God knows), they could have a field day. Really need a win today, big time.

Agreed. He's certainly talking the talk at the moment, hopefully he can actually see it through.

Interesting 1st team selection, bringing Smith-Rowe and Nelson into the starting 11. Not sure about Chambers and Luiz at CB though!

Its not guess work, and its not just my view either, and its got nothing to do with current form other than the effect of the club ownership and board. Its the clubs ownership that meant any top manager wasn't interested in AFC.
I'm sure the club tried to make out they did indeed have a list of 12 candidates.....but more likely they didn't even have half that number, and they still chose one with no previous experience.
Not a chance they were in a position to attract a top manager.
You need to see the reality of where AFC are now, not where they were 10 or 15 years ago.

Not much of a first half. Both new managers have their work cut out. Martinelli again looking dangerous (ish).

Clean sheet away from home, a few glimpses of improvement in the second half but can’t expect things to change overnight. Positive from me, stop losing is the most important.
