Celtic aren't going to get another manager of Rodgers' calibre but surely they can do better than Lennon.

They could have Pep and still end up going out to a bunch of Romas

It’s very rare that I get annoyed at the result of a football match (last time was France v Ireland Henry handball shocker) but l’m still annoyed at last night’s showing.

What was Lennon thinking?! What must the new signings be thinking?!

Putting Callum McGregor at left back to shoehorn Ntcham into midfield because he wanted a “technical player” there? Wtf. Suicidal.

Dear dear dear.
Should never have gotten the job full-time and just went out on a high after the Scottish Cup final last May.

He made some utterly baffling decisions at Hibs and left us with something like one win in 14 games. Mental how Lawell thinks he's the correct man to take Celtic forward onto the next step after Rodgers.

Bad for the co-efficient but rather funny at the same time that Celtic got papped out by a Romanian team who average less fans than Killie at home after moaning at all us diddy teams for not giving them enough competition.
£10m of his own defensive signings, he's got arguably the best midfielder playing at left back, and the defence is a shambles.

After the first leg it was clear this game wasn't going to be easy. Yet he takes away the safety net of a player like Scott Sinclair who scores critical goals time and time again to have an unproven(looks quite poor) youngster like Morgan on the bench.

Last season under Lennon the team often started games really poorly and needed to dig themselves out of a hole. This season has the very same feeling where the players are lacking motivation and desire too often.

Lennon wasn't the man for the job and penny pinching has just got expensive.

After the first leg seeing how they liked to get crosses into the box early he should have played the Ajer Simo and Julien with the 2 new full backs giving Celtic a good strong defence.
0-0 would have taken them through and he plays the most creative midfielder at left back which Rodgers also tried and failed while Hayes and Bolli are left to cool their heels!
Morgan in ahead of Sinclair shows that the board taking up the extra year on his contract was to try and sell him which has now backfired unless he goes abroad.
If the board don’t act now this could be a very long disappointing season and the blame will lie squarely with them!

I don't even think the money spent or not spent should have affected Celtic's ability to win last night. The squad is big and good enough to win a game like this. The strikers will score so they just need to avoid messing up the defense.

Why not have Hayes at left back, McGregor in the middle, and rather than have Mikey Johnson up front have someone more defensive in the middle or at the back e.g. Bitton or Jullien?

Lennon must know something we don't...

Quite the vote of confidence in the new defenders, eh? Playing midfielders in front* of them recently.

There’ll be no gloating from me until if/when Rangers make it into the group stages boxedin

* in front in terms of team selection!

The common thread linking bad defending through the Deila, Rodgers and now Lennon eras, against good European teams, is John Kennedy as defensive coach.

Darren O'Dea soon to be appointed reserve team coach.

Teams need to get away from feeling the need to appoint ex players due to some loyalty. Unless they have something exceptional to offer which I don't think O'Dea, Kennedy or McManus have, they shouldn't get jobs so easily.

The defending in Europe has been terrible for a long time. I think a part of the issue is playing in Scotland the defence doesn't have to defend that much and face this style of play.

It is a bit of a dilemma for the board now. Fans rightly want more than they've seen so far and that needs investment. A shudder at the thought that they go the other way and sell on someone else to minimise the loss of CL football.

Another blow for the Scottish co-efficient in Europe.
Agreed, but perversley, assuming they get into the Europa league they are likley to win more points there.
Not sure about that - points available in the CL are much higher per game, and for qualification into the group stage itself.

Looking at the UEFA website, it is pretty close. CL qualification is 4 points, EL qualification minimum 3 points.
Thereafter it's 2 points for a win, 1 point for a draw.
I would expect Celtic (assuming they qualify) to get more points overall in the EL. Qualifying from CL group stages is more valuable than EL due to a 4 point bonus, but less likelly realistically.
Seems crazy really.

Hopefully another 2 Scottish teams through into the Europa playoff this evening. I fancy Aberdeen to have a right good go at it.

Sounds like a miserable night. It'll be a horrible second half.

I see Cosgrove made after Mcinnes said he was out. The radio saying he should also have been sent off.
